Outnumber bonuses might cap out at 5:1 or might continue scaling, but that should be a real thing. If each soldier on side A is being attacked by 5 soldiers on Side B, that's going to make things pretty one-sided. I'd copy existing wargames like Kriegsspiele and have "combat ratios" go fr...

An other alternative to "skeleton (or golem) morale" is that the skeletons simply crumble when morale is working against them. One of the primary reasons a WHFB skeleton regiment is both: A) often the only skeleton regiment in the army and B) so fvcking yuge; is that every failed morale ch...

words Your argument here is that because you, personally, are too stupid to come up with a solution, it must be impossible and we should all give up. Really, when stated outright rather than merely implied, it pretty much defeats itself. It's a bit worse than that. Dimmy is deliberately forgetting ...

The basic flow of a battle is something like this: Oh noes! Orcs are on the march! Assess the Orcish army strength. Assess the opposing army strength. Realize that the Orcs have an advantage. Players decide how they are going to want to interact with this fact (attempt to gain more army strength fo...

I think that Frank's original assessment "Each unit simply adds some "Army Values"; and the resulting values are arbitrated in some sort of wargame between factions at the battlefield, might be the best way to calculate "any amount" of military forces. Factions tend to coale...

That looks pretty similar to Eclipse , a game in the Masters-of-Orion-as-boardgame subgenre which is basically a lighter Twilight Imperium . I'll be honest, the amount of times people have written about how Twilight Imperium takes so long to play made me curious about playing it at a friends place....

Well, a pool playing dragon (and friends) was a staple of Dragon magazine for most of its first decade of existence. Wormy: https://sites.google.com/site/wormycollected/Home/dragon-issue-9 I think that I never read Wormy as a collected comic, because I lost all memory of Wormy's 1970's underground ...

The way that Warmaster deals with the Monster, Hero, Regiment divide is by treating them as different types of units that work better in conjunction, than apart. Heros give a combat bonus (in Battle for Argmaddon it's a reroll on the resolution chart) to Regiments they're stacked with; and allow any...

Unless it's been shown that the Dragon plays pool; and the players/PCs have any interest in playing it, it's unlikely to show up.

If you want a "poolplaying" scene, you'll have to introduce one to the players before they even consider it as a possibility.

actually requires a ground-up redesign of D&D is Warhammer Fantasy Battles worth looking at for that, they integrate various levels of spellcaster with blocks of tiny men marching around No, because it still forces rolling on an "idividual model" scale. Game's Workshop's "Warmast...

Playing Pool as a skill, could be handled as a Profession (Poolshark); but D&D's skills don't list anything remotely useful, and neither does Kaelik's Skill Groups. As both are meant to detail actions in adventures; not urban hustlers. However, you could give +2 Synergy bonuses (up to a maximum ...

A corner in tech development: Intel's 17-Qubit chip

I guess this could have gone in MSPIS, but I feel that it relates to video gaming more than general news. So, Intel is going to be releasing 17-Qubit quantum chips (soonish?). Honestly, I thought this was still a while off. I haven't finished reading the article (so maybe these are still worthless w...

I'm going to assume that firearms can't be enchanted then? If that's the case, then lens-enchanting is likely off the table as well.

For Trolls not living long, I'm guessing they're basing it in part on reality where some of tallest humans in the world die of heart failure. I understand that tack; except that a Troll could be shot into unconsiousness or literally stabbed in the heart, and might live to tell the tale due to super...

One thing that I always forget to do when playing Fallout 4 is to pickpocket the power cells from enemies wearing power armour. Supposedly doing so forces them to pop out of the exo-frame; allowing it to be taken to one of your settlements for a settler to wear. Not doing so, results in a exo-frame ...

For some reason, I'm actually surprised that "trolls" were somehow envisioned as living shorter than humans. Fantasy sources are more likely to describe trolls as either ageless, or "old as stone/mountains"; than "dying really young." As for Orcs, seeing how contemporar...

Laser ammo is unlikely to be enchanted, as even enchanting the battery should not have an effect on the energy produced unless I read the rules wrong. You'll probably need to make something based on the system you're using; but looking at existing stuff that works is going to be better than making it whole cloth. I've added the Repair & Pilot rules, as well as the landspeeder entry to my previous post.

Koumei wrote up some decent Vehicle use rules for their d20 40k content. Mechs/vehicles simply add a bunch of bonuses to several attributes (e.g. speed). Probably the best vehicle rules I've seen for any tabletop game, because they were so easy to understand and explain. Dungeoun Crusade Repair &...

You can also have people spend karma at the beginning of a session. Players colluding is pretty much expected. One alternative I've seen is for players to be able to spend varying amounts of karma to flat out "buy" the equivalent of a card. The minor arcana are 1/2-1; while major arcana ar...

Planning characters for an AS Dying Earth Campaign.

Character wips for a tentative AS Dying Earth campaign: a gold-loving fire-shooting troglodyte; a juicer-powered mung-noodle & meatball dragon Golem (w chainsaws for hands); a giant ginger cinnamon. Aside from the pasta dragon golem wanting space travel (wings); I'm not really sure what the ging...
