So's I figured that Maximize and Empower only increasing the damage of the original spell would sensibly mean that other Metafeats would only increase the damage of the original spell. Little did I know.

Frank is right.. again... 2008 FAQ, pg 37-38

An incantatrix could cast a maximized empowered energy admixtured twinned repeat persistent acid arrow, and make the enemy take 96 damage per round for the rest of the day. That would actually be 7d4+8 for the next few rounds. Sorry. It bugs me when when people make the Metamagic stacking mistake. ...

So... there you go, the fighters weapons gain XP when he fights with them, as does his armors, bit by bit. This is represented by a pool of nice things that do the same shit that mjolnir, menginjora, and jarngriepr could do. Though instead of getting shitty static bonuses like the Belt of Giants st...

As a thread necromancer: does the DA Super-AC build Frank mentioned just consist of "Lesser Aasimar Wizard 3 with Otherwordly" or am I missing something? Yeah, pretty much. Go stack Monk and Mystic Wanderer on there too. Yada, Yada.. Super AC build. Stacking armor and nat armor can swing ...

For the cleric, the issue of large spell lists also looms large, but I'm also annoyed by the lack of focus - I was thinking that instead of X spells / level +1 domain spell, clerics could cast 1 spell per level + X domain spells. So the cleric could do many domain-relevant spells per day, but only ...

Ok then, it looks like we have 3 basic problems. 1) Dumpster-Diving Taking up too much game time to figure out what to change into. 2) Implementation Taking up too much game time to convert to your new stats 3) Overpowered Power level increase is too good This is pretty much what I thought it would ...

The biggest potential problem I see in PF are the Trap Options. There are so many bad feat choices and archetype choices that if one player doesnt do his homework he could end up too far behind the rest of the party. I think there is errata on the Paladin smite that makes it a bit more sensible. Be ...

Is it a Game or is it a Cooperative Roleplaying Experience? This is what all of this boils down to. If you ask the question that way the answer is clear: Of course it's a Game, read the rules, take too much damage and you're dead. It's always been a game going back old-school. Now of course it was t...

As for PAO, PF, suggestions and all the rest. Im just trying to establish what the actual, honest-to-god problems with the polymorph spell are and I only got one brain and 50 brains is better than one so im askin you guys. PoliteNewb mentioned turning the fighter into a Troll. I'd think this would be a problem IF the result was significantly better than using another really good buff spell. Say.. Greater Heroism. Does polymorph give you more than +4 attack, damage, saves, checks and a few HP? Another one to run the ma...

2. Turning into a Choker or a Ravid or something gives you monster powers that were never balanced for or even considered as player character powers. 3. The rules for how Polymorph works, what it changes and what it doesn't are a badly written and confusing tangle of references to other spells. Whi...

1. By being able to turn into a Troll, Elephant or Giant Scorpion, the caster of Polymorph can spend a single spell slot to become a better fighter than anything the actual fighter class gives you. Im not seeing it. I have the 7th level fighter dealing more damage than the Troll. I have the 10th/11...

Polymorph

Im writing up my final rules for 3.5 and I cant put it off any longer. Ive hit Polymorph.

Ive seen much eye-rolling and shrugging at the mention of the spell but what are the actual, honest-to-god problems with Polymorph?

Not looking for solutions yet, just problems. Need to know what to fix first.

Irks the table? I think 2-4 may irk the DM but not players. 1 may irk both. I think the type of MMaxing that irks people the most is when one player out-jobs another players character concept. I see it most often when a Cleric starts out-meleeing the fighter-types and sometimes when the Wizard is us...
