One interesting question might be whether or not the Arcanist can benefit from Expanded Arcana. Their spells entry says that anything which adds to their spells known instead adds to their number prepared. Expanded Arcana requires you to have a limited number of spells known. If you can make use of ...

Because doing that a few times a day on top of that exploit, plus the DC bonus you get and the extra spontaneous spell/magic item (the fuck are you taking a familiar for) are worth the three sunk feats when there's really fuck-all else you need as a PF caster. And why aren't you dumping Strength? Y...

If you finagle the Arcane Bloodline Heritage's Metamagic Adept ability onto an Arcanist, shit just gets dumb. This is a very stupid thing to do. It involves sinking 3 feats (Skill Focus, Eldritch Heritage, Improved Eldritch Heritage) and a chunk of stat build points (Cha15 instead of 7) to do somet...

Increasing stats to 2 costs 10 Karma. Power points cost 5pp each for Mystic Adepts. The 2 cost was erratted. Your initiative is pretty awful. You want to be able to hit 20+ without too much trouble to get plenty of actions. Either Increased Reflexes spell or adept power do well. If you have the Eagl...

I am going to be playing SR5 shortly so thought I would see if I could get some character creation advice. I have never played SR before but have done a fair amount of reading around. I am not looking to get into major rules arguments or discussion, instead I am looking for some practical advice on ...

Huh. Staring at the How to Play document, I just realized you can make a full plate and shield(bash) wizard. All spellcasting in armor takes is proficiency. Mind you, it is a pretty big trap, as you're either doing it at really late levels, or pushing back maxing your int (and therefor attack rolls...

Actually, the main Arcane blood line is one of the two worst in the core rules (Abyssal being the other one). However, the Sage variant looks a little better, since it gives you a damage dealing 1st-level power instead of Arcane Bond. Not much better, because it's not a lot of damage and your blood...

Quick question on the same vein: Would it be worth it to go crossblooded archetype as well, and if so, what bloodline would cross best with sage? In general no. As mentioned you know fewer spells at each level which delays further your access to higher level spells. You do get the spell slots but n...

If you don't mind me asking, K, how can a human sorcerer get the maximum spells known without having to set all their feats on fire? I know the alternate racial bonus that gives a human sorcerer an additional spell known every level, and I know of a couple feats that grant additional spells known, ...

I was going to recommend Imbue with Aura, but it doesn't last long enough. I thought it was an hour/level, not minute/level. Hmm, would this work? It says the persons radiates your Aura for the duration which is identical to your own. The feat requires you to have the Aura class feature to even tak...

The Abyssal bloodline has a level 15 feature that lets you summon an extra critter whenever you summon a fiend. There is a robe that lets you count as 4 levels higher for the purposes of your bloodline. There is a feat (Supreme Summons) that let you dump an extra summon onto the board whenever you ...

The Abyssal bloodline has a level 15 feature that lets you summon an extra critter whenever you summon a fiend. Yes but the rest of the Bloodline is awful so you suck for 15 levels. Claws, inherent strength bonuses, maybe 1 feat you might actually want to take and a bonus spell list with perhaps tw...

And before you tell me it wouldn't work that way, allow me to remind you that in the United Kingdom it actually does. Retail space in game stores is primarily retail space in Games Workshop stores (who achieved their monopoly ironically by getting exclusive UK distribution rights for D&D back i...

like i said, settings are NOT the default of the AD&D game, and do NOT define the game, just their own setting. I notice that you are ignoring the existence of the manual of the Planes. Released for 1e in 1987 with extensive information on travelling to the inner and outer planes, how you survi...

1. modules are accessories, NOT the game. Your anecdote is no more viable than my anecdote. we certainly engaged in a lot of planar hopping adventures back in 1E. Reitiring characters was uncommon and planar travel was fairly frequent. The DMG supported that as an option and Manual of the Planes ex...

And a few other planes hopping style adventures off the top of my head: 1983 - Land Beyond the Magic Mirror 1985 - Where Chaos Reigns 1986 - Twilight Calling 1987 - Egg of the Phoenix 1987 - Five Coins for a Kingdom 1987 - Talons of Night 1988 - The Throne of Bloodstone 1988 - Tales of the Outer Pla...

im talking about plane-hopping to begin with. outside of planescape this wasnt the norm for D&D. it wasnt until EQ that such a thing was commonplace because the various planes wrent really seen as places you would want to go. Queen of the Demonweb Pits was published in 1979. Everquest 1 release...

and NO a DM doesnt owe you travel to the other planes unless specifically IN a Planescape campaign. the reason they might not be playing Planescape is because the DM doesnt like that shit nor want to be a part of it. OK I normally lurk here for occasional amusing flamewars but I had to register jus...
