Two points: 1 Feats suck balls and are incredibly narrow (usually). As such, any feat that could possibly be useful in a wide variety of situations gets high marks. 2 Prestige classes have entry requirements, and prerequisite feats can only come from the PrC source or the Phb. Add to this the fact t...

Thank you all for responding. On to your points: I was under the impression that being a centaur creates an undue pressure on the entire environment, inconveniencing the party at many a turn. If it's difficult to get a horse somewhere, then it's difficult to get a centaur in it. This is a character ...

TNE and Centaurs

This thread is dedicated to discussing why a centaur type player character can or cannot exist in TNE, according to Frank’s subjective goals. It is my assertion that it is possible to create rules for TNE which create a setting which allows for individual player choice, without a centaur ever existi...

Centaurs have no place in winding tower staircases, cramped sewers, and crumbling ruins... This is completely fucking false and illustrates exactly why you are wrong. You have made a ton of assumptions, ignoring countless possible rules solutions. For no reason. Instead you should have asked "...

How the fuck are you suposed to answer that question a priori? You can easily answer such questions once you have decided on larger questions. We have already done this. Here is one specific example of the progression of rule building blocks we have used, prior to setting choice: 1A Do we want adva...

Problem: it being a leveled game was about the only thing in which everyone agreed - and that, of course, because people seem to have been fed D&D stereotypes for far too long in many cases. And, should we want to drop a few voices behind, it'd be already done by this point. So, do we wanna wai...

If you refuse to set yourself criteria for success or failure, your system has no basis by which to claim success. You do set criteria. The criteria is "A specific, new, internally consistent high fantasy world which draws on materials from various shared fantasy sources." You can pick th...

The physics of the gameworld are a mechanical choice that affects the setting. That mechanical choice can be made first. And it can be specific.

There is a difference between character building and in-game tactics. Bad tactics should equal less effectiveness. As for character building: If a combination of abilities appears to be good to a reasonable new player, and that particular combination creates a poor character (trap), then the game is...

For fuck's sake people. Finding a balance point for "racial" abilities was solved in the TNE discussions. Being a certain species does not give you abilities which synergize with classes. Being from a certain culture or region does. Elves are not awesome archers because their DNA dictates ...

AoO's only allow you to attack enemy creatures, not inanimate objects. Also, AoO's from movement are provoked because of the enemy's movement, not yours.

That aside, you can just make a simple houserule for it, and that would be fine.

Question: PCs are spectacularly unlikely. Seriously. A player can roll up to the table with an 18 INT *Human* anytime. We have no idea what the D&D population really looks like, but I'm gonna say that's one in a thousand intelligence. I once saw someone post the Dnd 3d6 and 4d6 Intelligence pro...

SphereOfFeetMan is a joke character I envisioned after reading the Dnd 3.0 Fiend Folio (FF). The FF was the first book to include extended rules for grafts and symbionts. You can see where this is going. Happily, there are no rules stating that you must restrict yourself to a sane number of limbs. S...

Differences in culture do not have to emerge from inherent differences in species. Read Guns, Germs, and Steel . Differences in cultures arise from many things: acc...
