D&D has gotten pretty messed up with its souls. Remember at this point that you can get killed, rise as a specter, get true resurrected elsewhere, and people can still grab the head of your corpse and cast speak with dead to get it to answer questions based on what it remembers. Which is totes ...

I think it traces back ultimately to horror and fantasy fiction of the 1970s on, where the destruction and consumption of souls became a bit of a trope, and I'm not exactly sure where it really started in D&D terms but you can clearly see in Book of Vile Darkness that souls are used as items of...

A question about souls...

So, I've read the Tome of Fiends, and also Frank's review of the BoED where he complains quite a lot about redeeming enemies being pointless because souls are not permanent and both sides of the alignment fight use the souls of failures as street lamps and tea cups. What I want to know is, where did...

Re: Zombie survival game based off of the Shadowrun 4E Engine

Anyone know of any projects similar to this? Heck, I think you could straight-up port Shadowrun 4E to the genre, as long as you put some kind of limitations on mages and made it clear up-front that deckers aren't going to be equally useful in every game. Granted, the resulting project would be more...

Oh, right. Friendship is Dragons. I gotta be honest- anytime they specifically mention 4e mechanics, it makes me wonder why the hell I read it. To be fair, the entire thing is a giant fucking stupid railroad, so 4e is the best reflection of that, because the ponies can only deviate from the railroa...

as the DM i would realize that the populace has no income to pay for anything and thus the idea is pointless as the kingdom wants taxes more than it does products to sell, so keeping the peasants on their backs so you can walk on them is worth more than the effort in this. Actually, it's more along...

Makes me wonder how much christianity benefited from being associated with a healer type (seeing as most people see someone who can cure wounds and diseases as a 'good' person). And what the general opinion on nature would have been like if they got it instead. Well, keep in mind that the concept o...

Yes! The first three books of "Dungeons and Dragons" were "Men and Magic", "Monsters and Magic" and "Wilderness and Underworld adventures". In "Men and Magic" there were three classes: Fighting Man, Magic user, also technically Elves (Fighting man/ M...

I really have no idea why people think "Thane" is a good class name. It means Servant for fuck's sake. Thane is a middling rank , granted to retainers of people of actual importance. You might as well call your class Družyna or Hird. Actually, those would be better because there is room t...

bruce banner's power source is fukken shapeshifting. The Hulk uses pure physical force. That which provide him the power for that physical force is his muscles, no chi or magical spells. Shapeshifting is just "fluff". He trained using dumbells, he shapeshifts, he drinks vitamin plus, he b...

What has to be recognized is that the fighter is an incomplete concept. By contrast, the paladin is a pretty strong concept, a crusading knight of justice and chivalry with all the trappings of the Knights of the Round Table and the Twelve Peers. Paladin is the class you take if you want to play Si...

Well...regardless of how if Fighters go pass ten, I can think of one GTFO ability which comes up that generally screws fighters. Flying. Specifically, flying + ranged. The Spoony One devoted an entire Counter Monkey episode to describing how dragons can abuse this: http://spoonyexperiment.com/2012/0...

Maxus: I read your sig, thinking that was you describing all the tricks that your Fighter/Death Knight/whatever character could do. I was feeling awfully impressed.

...Then I remembered that I read your sig before and the facepalm that followed could be heard for miles.

The balance is bullshit. Evil totally outbalances good in the Planescape universe. The Abyss is a literally ENDLESS hellhole of beasts that hunger for the suffering (and souls) of intelligent beings everywhere. Also, the argument of "Good is the absence of evil" is also bullshit. If "...

Okay...I'm getting a whole heck of a lot of ideas about "Crusades" style conflicts in this forum. Sigh...so the very agents of good themselves are judgmental tyrants/suicidal fanatics that fight holy wars at the drop of a hat, with no regard for who gets involved whatsoever. Then again, ac...
