Take off and talk about the Super Duper Mart!

Now how about them perks and luck stat? I know fans of the series will be upset if you can port a character from one of the vidja games without starting over. I want my Sniper Black Widow Daddy's Girl Explosive Expert Pyromaniac Infiltrator!

Only thing I can actually call an accomplishment is playing with the same 1st/2nd edition AD&D group for over a year, and actually getting my fighter to fifth level. Too bad he's a half orc.

I have since learned. Learned what? What I do nowadays is ignore the wealth by level guidelines and simply hand out wondrous items. So much more interesting when a character gains a new ability, instead of +2 to hit and damage. I've been thinking of finding a way to add magic weapons to the chart i...

We have a re-roll system in place in the first edition game I'm in. There's been an epic case where an attack rolled a nat-1 and rerolled to nat-20. But for the most part, unless we're re-rolling something that we wouldn't have failed anyway, we don't bother. Attacks miss half the time, saves fail t...

If you're actually interested in playing a game like this, it sounds very similar to Millennium's End . I remember it seeming a little complex for the 15 year old me, but it had targeted hit locations, percentile dice and split damage types including, for gunshots only, "hydrostatic shock"...

Have you considered just giving up and going to play Fallout instead? Yes. I think it's obvious what I decided. There are several reasons I would not play any version of your proposed game. A minor one, as several have mentioned, is that it is clunky and time-consuming. But the main reason is that ...

@kzt: This is what the results of the soak roll are supposed to represent. It's a major abstraction from the hi-jinks that bullets pull off, but the spread between +100% and -10,000% (or whatever) will take into account the difference between getting hit by a .22 all the way up to . All the small ar...

@Juton: I just bought 80$ of d10s the other day. I am downright having strange nocturnal fantasies about d10s. @kzt: that's pretty useful stuff to know. To start, that means that I need to differentiate the difference between having a character run'n'gun and taking careful aim. I think a severe pena...

System Design Involving Guns and Hit Locations

My continuing attempts to create an RP system of my own continue. This time I'm trying for a gritty, high detail, gun fight simulator. So far I have a vague idea of having players design characters by assigning numbers to primary attributes, which then have a whole slew of secondary attributes that ...

I wasn't getting anything done mostly due to other things happening in my life, but I was also losing motivation with every other update due to the fact that I wasn't getting as much feedback as I needed; I wasn't sparking any discussions. Level Up! Combining Vertical and Horizontal using Karma

This ties into the Title-less game I'm developing. I think I have a system that has the best of both worlds, despite having a fair bit of complexity. What I do is create a number of character development options for characters to acquire. I know I will encourage some of them to be acquirable in game...

I plan to implement something similar in what I'm working on. First and second level characters are schmucks with very basic abilities and tactics. Certainly the core system will provide robust options for things to do (in and out of combat), but the abilities unique to your character at the very bo...

OK, so what is it about the distinction between the different classic DnD Divine classes that's supposed to make them both different from each other, but the same for all deities? Obviously, the Paladin is a martial class with divine blessings, so Barbarians (if made a class), Knights, Soldiers, and...

Feel of the game: "Deities! How do they work?!?"

One of the things that has been niggling at the back of my head for a while has been how to handle gods, demi-gods, archangels, devil kings and demon princes. One of the issues has been the handling of deities in previous iterations of fantasy games. (ref: Most D&D Clerics aren't polytheists ) I...

Though, it is strange that there is someone who is explicitly the god of being elfy and there is no one who is explicitly the god of being humany (someone's going to turn him some really minor deity I can't remember, aren't they?). How about 2 per tier? That way to can have equip your schmucks and soldiers with two pieces of magic gear, or have speshul gnomes and elves with a special ability but only one magic piece of gear. Then at 9th and 10th level, dudes like Mandarin are walking around pimped out in magical bling, shootin...

OK, so here's a thought that occurred to me. If you don't want people to play as powerful creatures at low level, and don't want high level beasts to be converted to team Nice Guys and given magical equipment to break the game, then why not make being a powerful race the equivalent of having N magic...

I think it's more like how in Halo you can skip the cut-scenes and get right to shooting, for the most part. There's still some walking/driving around that's more like a cut-scene where you have control of the camera, but you can totally skip most of the story and just shoot aliens. Lago is saying t...
