Re: Saga of Two Jedi: Star Wars campaign log [no PL]

Session III [/u] Jhum & Bhyss are thrown into a cell, have tamper-proof shock collars attached, and their lightsabers are tossed aside well away from their cell. A guard with a shock trigger is posted to watch them. The player for SOB is returned, and we presume he's also captured like the rest...

Re: Saga of Two Jedi: Star Wars campaign log [no PL]

Session II Our pair of intrepid Jedi decide their next destination should be a more plant-heavy planet, so that Jhum can collect some specimens to add to their ship to make it more comfortable. They decide to go to Quermia, a garden paradise planet, home to the Quermian people, who are ruled over b...

Re: Saga of Two Jedi: Star Wars campaign log [no PL]

Session 1 Having decided to take a trip along the Corellian Run before disembarking to less traveled areas, the pair (along with our guest-star PC, a droid named SOB) went toward Tatooine. This took a standard week to reach from Coruscant, and after a bit of review, they found a settlement with som...

Re: Saga of Two Jedi: Star Wars campaign log [no PL]

The tradition in Star Wars fanfic campaigns is for the ship to be a Millennium Falcon. I really wanted to break from that, and figured a slow luxury yacht would be a nice contrast to that. The real shame is my inability to think of a satisfactory mechanical bennie to give them as a consequence of th...

Re: Saga of Two Jedi: Star Wars campaign log [no PL]

Near as I can tell, there are about a dozen expansion books. One of which is Threats of the Galaxy, which is Monster Manual analogue. Overall, from what I can tell, the encounter system is intended to be mathematically the same as 3E's - which is the baseline I will be working with in this campaign....

Saga of Two Jedi: Star Wars campaign log [no PL]

A Saga of Two Jedi: Session Zero [/b][/u] I'm getting ready to run a new campaign, but with only two players, due to scheduling (technically a third will be available intermittently). The year is 3700 BBY, two and a half centuries since the Dark Wars, and nearly two decades before the Sith Empire m...

Re: [High 5e] Brancalonia: Spaghetti Fantasy Setting

I've had good luck with E6 for my 3.X games, but it requires more work than just a level restriction. You want to tweak the entire setting to account for it. Town guards are level 1 commoners, while better funded/trained city guards are level 1 warriors. That captain of the guard? Yeah, he's a level...

This is clearly using the Cypher system (it's on the cover), which was the core mechanic of Numenera.

Depends on the effects of a miscast. If all it does is fizzle or a minor inconvenience, then it's essentially like having a spell miss or be resisted, which should be fine. The severity of the miscast increases the badness of the idea. Having a spell that is asymmetric in power at the cost of possib...

I mean, damage isn't something you generally address during downtime unless things are weird. As for stress, it's sort of like downtime, but I would more accurately describe it as a timer for getting things done; be it reconnaissance, travel time from A to B, handling a long-term investigation of an...

What I'm currently thinking is for the investigative rules to instead be essentially a rubric for developing a module. One of my examples was identifying the monster so you can confront it more readily, so that is what I will focus on. I'm hoping the structure I develop here can be kit-bashed for th...

Investigative RPGs (No PhoneLobster)

So, I'm trying to look into developing an investigative RPG. It doesn't need to be as crunchy as 3.X, so I'm trying to consider my options and hopefully see some productive input that I can crib off of. On the one hand, crunchy systems provide a good foundation for predictability that can be a sourc...

One thing I've wondered about is the nature of class & level in your game, or as I like to call it, the Lesson of Elothar. On the one hand, players clearly accept their characters advancing in things by mandate they wouldn't have necessarily chosen in a more loose advancement system. On the othe...

Having the test require sufficient cleverness or sufficient power is pointedly not what the tribes care about in the test. Even great villains can fly over a pit or do some other stupid wizard trick. What they care about is whether they can trust the PCs to be around artifacts without giving into th...
