Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

Someday I aspire to make a game so popular that other people describe it inaccurately to each other without my input instead of me having to do it myself. Oh damn, that's my life goal right there. Gygaxian RPG: Charts after charts, an XP progression for every class, racial classes (ripped straight ...

Re: Handling Modern Sensibilities in a Western RPG

Ironically, my favorite Wuxia films happen to be Shaw Bros productions in Hong Kong, which could very well be one giant setting crossover featuring EVERY SHAW BROS ACTOR and still make sense, since it's:
Humble peasant hero gets martial arts training and fights back against Manchurian oppression.

Re: Epic Feats at a lower level

My gripe with granting the Daze rider to a melee attack at Level 16+ is that it's a cantrip for most casters from Level 1. The reason why I said the word metagaming is because it's the same as assuming almost every enemy is going to have Fire immunity, while very few have Sonic immunity, but then th...

Re: Epic Feats at a lower level

Nope. Stunned, then Paralyzed are more debilitating.

Losing actions for 3 rounds is indeed bad, but at least with Daze it's not allowing all autocrits like Paralyze.

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered

Personally I enjoy RPGs that don't have an Ability Score which then does a fancy little calculation, and then grants a Bonus. Seriously, do the Shadowrun thing and slap out some numbers, then add those values to your dice pool or d20 roll, and you don't have to explain to new players "oh you ra...

Re: Handling Modern Sensibilities in a Western RPG

Speed (aka initiative) = Skill, starts at +4 ranks and scales up from there, ensuring higher level slingers go first
Dexterity = essentially "Accuracy" but I suppose it would also allow faster reloads, throwing things, sleight of hand, etc
Agility = Dodge, Tumble bonus, Ride bonus

Re: Epic Feats at a lower level

Crap. I should have named this thread "Make It A Feat!" because now I'll have to pester FBMF for a retitle or lock of this one while I dump like a dozen Tome feat proposals in one thread. And in reading Races of War in depth (again) I noticed this time how late as many as three combat feat...

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

Ok so hear me out, I mutated the PF2e action system into something really weird. That's fine that each action allows another attack, but there should be more stabbity stabs with daggers and slap pow bam punches, the smaller the weapon the more attacks, and greatwrapons would be lumbering with the re...

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

Oh. Forgot to mention. NPL's rants could essentially be distilled into the following categories, of which I MOSTLY agree about the classes determining capability of role, but even then I use the term "class" loosely. No classes, no stats (NPL) Classed, no stats (My heartbreaker as of last ...

We'll all gonna release fully playable TTRPGs soon! :roundnround: Mehhhhh I thought my FHB "Domain" was ready but then PF2 came out and I was all... "Crap. Action points per turn is so much better." then I was like "Wooo no initiative rolls!" Then we started discussing...

Re: [Phil Swift Voice] "THAT'S A LOTTA GODS"--The planes sure seem crowded...

Give Abjuration some heals and if it's too much to port over from the Cleric list, bump the spells up a level or whatever. Or maybe I'm just pushing the atheist White Mage trope too often, since Clerics are probably the dumbest development out of AD&D besides Exceptional Strength rolls and the g...

Re: Handling Modern Sensibilities in a Western RPG

Krusk, awesome. As for any kind of 3.x Gunslinger true class, I suppose a setting designer could just make "guns" a simple weapon for everyone to use, but.. then you'd have the Clint Eastwood kind of people roaming around, and that's when you port in the Pathfinder class. Otherwise, most w...

Re: Epic Feats at a lower level

Well, I didn't mean MORE feats, but instead retconned SRD options that almost no one uses because like 1% of playgroups use Epic rules, which is sad because... To be hyperfocal on one feat... I really like the concept of a high level noncaster backhanding aside an Orb of Force slung in their directi...

Re: Handling Modern Sensibilities in a Western RPG

I'd rather see a full-on fantastical setting that just happens to have gunslingers and deserts with the usual elves, orcs, gnomes, and whatever, while humans are just humans with a variety of colors. Naturally you'd want to avoid tropes like "ok in this setting all American Natives are replaced...

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

5e literally just has "+1d4 damage" from the Enlarge spell, which is fine except for the requirement of more rolls per attack every round, but it's a good direction. Higher level monsters such as ancient dragons and various giants have high STR and CON built into the statblock, and aside f...

Epic Feats at a lower level

In reading through the variety of practically subpar-to-average feats in the SRD, I thought... Would class/encounter balance be thrown off if the criteria for being considered "Epic" were reduced to, say, levels 10-15 at earliest? I'm talking about feats like Blinding Speed, which just cas...

Re: "In my game the Mental Attributes are..."

The problem with RAW STR boosting is mostly, from my experience, size increases, but this was fixed in the Tome errata.

I will write it again, class ability save DCs should be level based, not stat.

Re: Mixing & Matching Resource Systems

Sacrifice HP to augment their own attributes. As much as I want to +1 this concept, every time I mention it as a Warrior standard for a renewable resource, multiple members remind me that healing is so easy to acquire in D&D that it's essentially the same as at-will ability. You'd have to do so...

Re: Mixing & Matching Resource Systems

I personally divide the resources into two categories: Mental Physical You can rename them what you want, but Mental means you enter battle with x points and spend them down until you have to go take a nap, while Physical means you build points with taking/dealing damage or using combat techs or eve...

What if it has HP but is immune to the Dead status effect In the UQ Holder comic, there are dozens of methods for pinning down, impaling, wrapping, eating, banishing, or just plain sending an immortal into a star or black hole. But then again, if a deity has a spirit or whatever that just changes p...

If gods do something that isn't just "be overpowered"... I could really do with a Tome God race to play, I'm running out of weird races I wrote ten years ago. "Godling" Divine Rank -20 Personally, I absolutely HATE the division between Divine and Arcane on a mechanical and thema...
