I ran a group of friends through the Night Below campaign in high school. There was a part where the (3rd level at that point) group came across a family of formorian giants who by all rights should have handed them their asses. The paladin bitch slapped them all into oblivion. I can't remember my e...

Note that one of the PCs is Mr. MacGuffin and one of them is the assassin... but no one knows who is who (except for the player playing said character). • The whole Eternal Hero thing. Several campaig...

I've gotten off lucky over the years. The worst I ever had to deal with was a MC who assumed we could read his mind and tell what his house rules were (he never mentioned them otherwise unless there was a dispute). This guy was a total CHUD who seriously believed that cats were sapient and the unive...

K brings up an interesting point about character limitations. In a lot of older literature (I would include pulp fantasy in this as well) the characters were badass enough to handle whatever the author threw at them. The "character with limitations" was the original form of the anti-hero a...

In other news, I just read Stephen King's latest, "Full Dark, No Stars". Very grim (but hey, it's King, what else is new), and quite good. I think King is becoming a feminist in his old age...2 of the 4 stories were about violence against women, and both had female protagonists who felt v...

I played Rifts with some friends of mine years ago. We all knew full well what a screaming shit show Rifts was and made the most insane characters we could think of, who would go on the most insane adventures ever.

Good times.

Interesting. So what Frank and Orca are saying is that Adepts are best employed as "skill monkeys." Maybe that's the way you should go, Foxwander. Focus on infiltration and social skills. You could do recon jobs and meet with Mr. Johnson (worst NPC name ever, by the way), negotiate deals, ...

@ stormhierta : Have you considered giving guidelines for the actual "playing" playtest? For example: Generate a character with levels in class X (X being one of the new psionic classes you have). Stat the character out at different levels (maybe levels 5, 10, etc.) and then run them throu...

I borrowed the Pathfinder Core Rulebook from work a while back to check it out. Some of the stuff in there looks good on paper but after thinking about it for a while, it wasn't really that good. On the plus side, half-elves and half-orcs don't suck anymore.

A big question is deciding what the fuck you want them to actually do . Because that's not at all obvious. Is the Eldritch Blast supposed to be your main combat action, or a weird niche action you can fall back on? Are you supposed to feel like a spellcaster, a Demon, or one of the X-Men? When you'...

Is it just me or is there a lot of pure, unadulterated crap being published in the RPG industry? Maybe if 4E tanks, then we'll get a lot of smaller publishers (those left over from the third party d20 craze) putting out half decent material? I'm not about to put my faith in third rate hacks like K-D...
