Explicitly indirect damage is fine. Stuff like throwing a tree or rocks or people etc So long as we agree that you wouldn't then get the lab bonus for general telekinetic Rego spells that could be used for damage, I'm fine with that. I agree! Now, that said, what are you actual ideas for the covena...

Laertes since the core rule book allows a Major Magical Focus in "Damage" i.e. direct damage, would you allow a MMF in "Indirect Damage"? It would allow me to build a Rego specialist who throws things at his target or even just throws the target itself. Yes, I'll allow that. How...

It's not even democracy that's the issue... It's how the political and economic institutions of a country work in conjunction with each other.

If one wants a good look at what good and bad government can look like read this blog and their book:

I thought Houses of Hermes: True Lineages for Ars Magica 5th was a real gold standard supplement. It looked like a splat book for four of the mage traditions, and it was, but it also tied those traditions and their methods into things any magus could be interested in. The Bonisagus chapter was abou...

I took a serious look at the kingmaker series as a GM as at the time I was looking for some realm management rules. Paizo has recently released a book Ultimate something or another that codifies and expands these rules. The actual series looked intriguing, and it seems many people reported back with...

Ok, I'll take my beating for saying "I'm the GM therefore I win such arguments." I don't actually get into arguments very often because most of my players don't even know the system well enough to argue with me in the first place and always ask me what the appropriate level is for a sponta...

In all honesty, as a GM/player of Ars Magica for 16 years, the spontaneous system works well with a GM who actually knows the rules. There are relatively clear guidelines and a lot of stuff to memorize, which IS a weakness of the system, but necessary for the relatively simple parameterization of ho...

Man this is so depressing. I was honestly (and naively) hopeful that D&D 5E would be a game that I'd be introducing to my kids when they're old enough to play. At this rate, I'm just going to wait another 5 years for Pathfinder 2E (which will eventually come out right?) or D&D 6E if 5E doesn...

What exactly is copyrighted/trademarked about RPGs?

As the topic says, I'm curious what is typically copyrighted/trademarked about RPGs. For years I've been interested in in a novel idea that uses some of the sphere system from Mage: the Ascension, but have always been nervous about getting sued. Now that I've turned 30, I realize I should actually g...

I'd be curious to see a OSSR of Ars Magica 5th Edition. I've been playing the game off and on since 1998 and think I have maybe too much attachment to the game to give the kind of sarcastic vitrol yet hilariously funny reviews I've seen of other games that I've enjoyed reading/played. (Exalted 1E, 2...

It's funny you should bring up Mummy, though, since several times you've mentioned that nWoD Mummy was Frankensteined together out of fan material... is that for real? Unfortunately... yes. One of the stages of nWoD development was that they opened themselves up to fan submissions by "letting&...
