2. Have diverse abilities which can be used like golf clubs (you've mentioned this as a negative in the past, I don't think it has to be). These don't add depth to the game, they just create vivid moments where the character displays his range. Do you mean plot-writing abilities (such as "conn...

Trollman/Suilin sorcerer for the rescue! Well, actually, you'll probably have to fill it a little bit yet. Ask Frank, if need be.

Re: The sudden interest in psionics
Crissa: I do consider the warlock of similar feel to psionics of most fiction; there's only the problem of it sucking (Frank Trollman: "It's worse than PHB noncasters" - and he didn't mean "rogue", be sure). :)[br][br]On the soulknife, I tended to consider the ability to remake t...

Voss: you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but, well, many people would base heroism on the set of virtues they supposedly (and, in the end, I can't stress this enough) hold, so, let them be anachronistic and don't play with them, lest you be bored - but it sure should be possible.[br][br]That...

Re: The sudden interest in psionics
I like the flavor of the system and I even find the magic rocks and ectoplasm imagery of psionics pretty damn cool. I, however, do not like the system at all and I thought everyone here was under the impression that not only is it not balanced but it shouldn't be used in the game. The guys who were...

But you're still fucking forcing the DM and the PCs to read two more books and add new mechanics that don't necessarily add much to the game.[br][br]Seriously, since most other sourcebooks build off of core, if you just want a few feats or spells or a PrC, it's not that much work to integrate it in...

It probably is doable they way your suggesting, though, particularly if you can raise some interesting questions with it: Is a permanent dominate ethical in these circumstances? Is forcing a beholder to be Good a Good act? You aren't killing it, but you are enslaving it, which is questionable. And ...

Re: Being Good in D&D: this one's for you, K and Frank
One of the selling points about D&D is that you get to roleplay a hero. But it's really, really goddamn hard to do it when the world is the way it is. Heroes NEED to be able to convince Ogre hordes as a standard action the error of their ways and they also need some kind of bonus for taking thi...

What a minute. Your example of a "balanced" class is one in which you can get to 10th level and instead of having 5th level powers, a Mindflayer has to make a DC 17 Will Save before it can eat your brain?[br][br]It doesn't actually get you out of the grapple even - you're still dead even ...

Re: Arsenalist (psychic warrior + soulknife), psionics issue
A couple things on the class itself- you are using 'reforging' in two different ways. In one instance, its changing the type/bonus/powers of the item, and later, its referring to simply manifesting the item. Weird and confusing. I think that error was just in the "reforge weaponry" abilit...

Re: What is Gaming Really About?
And how's that not enough? Besides, though that's a technicality, only WotC books are of the D&D brand (or almost only - I think Kalamar was granted permission to be too, but that's it), and I always use "d20" instead when I'm expressly including anything else.

Re: What is Gaming Really About?
2 quick points:[br][br]- you say "gaming" in the title, and then say a lot that refers pretty specifically to D&D. Of course, you've asked here about True20 and Iron Heroes before (and I'd take the latter, if any), but you do know there's non-d20 games (and these might be closer to you...

Re: Threads that make us Laugh, Cry, or Both
That is indeed amongst the things which is fucking stupid and horrible about Psionics. Casters in D&D have a very simple rubric to determine if they are level appropriate: the spells they cast. If you drop "caster level" or manifester level, or character level, or any other arbitrary ...

Re: Arsenalist (psychic warrior + soulknife), psionics issue
Not really. Wizards get 1st level spells when they can cast 5th level spells because it's free. The ability to emulate a lower level character some number of times a day is worth fuck all. If said number is "some tens", how isn't having part of it and part of "being level-appropriate...

Re: Fighter fix (of course there had to be one)
Well, the fighter has only one ability, and this class gets a better version of it, right? Calling it "fighter" was sort of a joke with the "everyone should try to fix the fighter" meme (much stronger with the soulknife, though), and also because its style feats are the one thing...

Re: Arsenalist (psychic warrior + soulknife), psionics issue
But beyond the fact that everything in the Psionics books has shitty flavor, bad math, and a retarded implementation, the underlying concept is unsalvageable. Last I checked, the PHB (and, namely, the magic chapters) didn't suffer from a lack of any of those; to clarify, it's that I'm not saying th...

First off, I think the "strict/power game" idiocy never was upheld by many people (or, at least, not in the threads I follow); which makes it sort of good news considering all that getting rid of it takes is putting tarkin on the ignore list.[br][br]For the "catchphrases", I happ...
