Back to 5e, gate pulls the critter to you and is instantaneous, but gives no control over the critter in 5e.
That said I'm sure Crawford has issued 5 different contradictory twitter rulings on this crap.

So this is interesting. Recently WotC announced they were going to try to deal with some of the racial determinism by introducing an upcoming product that would let people swap out stat arrays. The community is in an uproar. Now, you or I would do this by releasing a PHB errata document that let all...

You could also posit that when good and evil armies fight the gods are duking out on their respective plane somewhere as well. It is easy to explain why Heironious is not personally smiting people with lightning bolts, he is fighting Hextor while the Good Shinytown Kingdom armies are locked in comba...

The Biblical version of alignment falls apart as soon as you add actual Evil gods who are on par with the Good gods and helped create the universe and shit. The Christian God is literally perfect (per doctrine) and is the final arbiter of morality, and Satan and company are just a bunch of pretender...

I legit have no idea what information was supposed to be conveyed by Challenge Rating in 5th edition. It doesn't correspond to anything at all. -Username17 Remember when they delayed the DMG to after the PHB and MM? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Or, more appropriately to this discussion, I'm pretty su...

People are trying to compare 5e monsters to monsters of equal CR in 3e, and this doesn't work, because 5e CR is batfuck insane and makes no sense. Remember, the DMG encounter guidelines (which came out after the MM) work off the XP totals of the monsters, not their actual CR. For bonus points look a...

Where would be the best place to talk about the 5e Artificer? It's uh...fairly interesting in terms of how hard it eats the Ranger's lunch. Just post it here. I'm not going to lie, my cousin was telling me all about his Artillerist Artificer and I was looking at it trying to figure out what the hel...

Maybe I'm nuts, but it seems like it would make more sense for all the vampires to...band together? As a vampire, you probably have more in common with the vampire dude from the middle east than the edible people next door. You could still have conflicts and whatnot, but IIRC vampire magic means peo...

Fifth: Even in the unrestricted environment of the regular 40K room, most battles I was seeing were Imp-on-Imp violence. Xenos were *rare*. Less than half a dozen each of Ork, Necron, and Tyranid players. Eldar and Tau were in evidence, but uncommon. Chaos wasn't particularly well represented, but ...

Point number two is mostly true because of HP inflation. The high end of 3.5 optimization has both wizards and warriors going full in on damage because you can actually break people with big numbers. Megadamage is actually better because you don't need to have all the condition immunities/saves memo...

The orcs are evil only because Sauron and Melkor made them evil, and I don't mean in a mark of ham bullshit way that you would hear from pseudoscientists, I mean through constant abuse and fear. Look at the part where Sam is sneaking around after Frodo gets captured - the orcs' motivation is mostly ...

4e didn't really fix any of the problems with 3.X. The big change that all the 4e crew loved was that warlock was the shit class instead of fighter, but you still had a lot of the same problems: -Casters had actual out of combat abilities and warriors did not. This got much worse with splatbooks wit...

I legitimately do not understand who PF2E is supposed to appeal to at all. The big appeal of Pathfinder - such as it was - was to cash in on 3.5 fans who rightfully thought 4e was garbage and didn't want to play it. This worked extremely well because 4e was bad and poorly marketed. Now to compete wi...
