That's fair. I'll take a crack at tightening the text in that section further, so it's smack-you-in-the-face obvious what I'm aiming for. It sort of feels that way to me now, but then, I already know what I mean. ^_^ I think I'll take a good look through what I already have outside of battlespells a...

While true, I'm curious about how this actually applies here. Vague aphorisms are useful during the design phase, but I'm past that now. Now that you know that firing off a lightning bolt *is* equivalent to firing an arrow, in that it uses the exact same mechanics, benefits from the exact same feats...

Re: Ironcarnum

[quote="Confused_Jackal_Mage]Not my problem. That d10 fire bolt is treated exactly like every other weapon. Particularly, it's treated identically to a d10 bow. Think the entire combat system sucks? That's fine, but my addition to it doesn't suck *more*. I'm not some wanker who thinks that mag...

What's so full of fail about it? 6: Erase your very identity from other's minds. ... 8: Hear people walking from far away. Right. Moving on. Also the focus pool mechanic is about the lamest thing I have ever seen. A 9th level Arcanist is seriously supposed to move tokens around and give himself a t...

Re: 4E: Crits.

Okay. Skellies with picks. Scary. If they're the super-mob brigade and only hitting on 20s, then 4e's basically just given them a 3d6 weapon (6+1d8=10.5) and screw crits. The 3e skellies are still doing more damage that 5% of successful hits that are crits, but the rest of the time they're stuck wit...

Re: 4E: Crits.

I'm unconvinced of that, as the degenerate cases exist for the 4e stuff as well. Pretty much the same degenerate cases as it happens, with High Criticals weapons getting in some amount of extra dice readded into the end. [br]You must be talking about a different degenerate case. I'm talking about t...

Re: More Threads that make us Laugh, Cry, or Both

But the Barb/Necro gets to say BOTH of the classic lines!

"I put the laughter in slaughter!"
"I put the romance in necromancer!"

How can you lose with wit like that?

Re: 4E: Crits.

After thinking through it a bit, I should have realized that you were talking about average damage on a successful hit. The last term in the 4e crit percent-damage formula threw me off, I think - it resembles what you'd be using if you were figuring average damage per attack.[br][br]I apologize for ...

Re: 4E: Crits.

That would be relevant had you said "hits" in the original post. The quote's right up there - you are saying "attacks".[br][br]You meant hits, and I'll accept that. It does ignore a slight wrinkle, though - when you threaten numbers that won't hit, your average damage is lower. S...

Re: 4E: Crits.

1199526238[/unixtime]] How is it imbalanced mathematically? [br][br]In 3rd edition, a 20 threat crits on 5% of attacks. A 19-20 threat crits on 10% of attacks, and an 18-20 threat crits on 15% of attacks. So a pick or scimitar does an extra 15% average damage, and improved critical doubles that to ...

Re: Let's talk Iron Heroes

If you want to discuss IH any further, the official IH boards over here are the place to go. We'll answer any questions you have or critique stuff. You'll also find all the errata there (which would have quickly answered the Bonus Feats problem that was posed here before).[br][br]I've been a lurker ...
