On a tangent, just read a good article on how pike formations fought and charged: https://www.quora.com/How-did-Swiss-pikemen-manage-to-charge-given-that-polearms-are-best-for-poking-while-hiding-in-a-line actually requires a ground-up redesign of D&D is Warhammer Fantasy Battles worth looking ...

That the Iron Kingdoms RPG pops up in the top five is really embarrassing for the industry. It is an amazingly terrible pile of shit. Character creation defines everything, and you can either build for offense, not being hit or survivability. If you don't build for the latter, you can be one shot by...

You seem to be extremely upset that 5e has done so well, though I can't, for the life of me, get why. I'm unclear on who you think is upset, and why you believe that. Plus, given how widespread the game is at most FLGS, just about every tabletop convention, et al, good time for 5e by all accounts. ...

Now, you can have the chicken and egg debate, over whether the 5e success is do to a general tabletop boom, or whether 5e's success contributed to the tabletop boom. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle there. . Wait, wait, wait. The 'tabletop boom' isn't about 5e or RPGs in general. It's spec...

Re: Complete newbie questions regarding hunting

So, stupid question the first, if anyone here happens to know- Is it legal, assuming proper licensing and property owner permission, to hunt small game, like wild turkey, in a residential area? Pretty much assume no on this. Even if from some fluke that it is, it's really damn stupid. Both from acc...

The biggest thing that the game gets by being set on earth is that people "know" about its history and locations because they are real things. However, shadowrun undoes all of that because real history is pointless, the boundaries of nations and peoples are all drastically changed, and th...

Well, if that's true at all, it might be a response to the Occult classes, which largely are too fucking complicated. The simplest is the psychic, a sorcerer with a couple extra moving parts. They're rest are basically made of poorly arranged gibberish. Some aren't too bad after character creation, ...

Difficult terrain. Half move, no 5' steps. Don't over complicate it.

Of course, if it's 3.5 dragons hoard by book, odds are it isn't particularly noticeable or relevant. Unless the dragon keeps it all in copper pieces.

5e is doing well enough to Hire a new designer I guess. I wonder if someone noticed that all the staff were working on their own competing products on company time and fired someone. Well, they've got plenty of holes to fill after the last decade. Maybe they're thinking about doing more than one Cr...

Maybe its internal shit only, but their published books don't really show any relationship there, particularly indexes, math expressions and general formatting.

Necromunda I have no ideas if the rules are good, but I liked this game in 1996. Well from the stat cards they're showing off (and the return of templates, scatter dice, and especially ammo/jam dice, which have been gone since 2nd), they're doing a weird hybrid of 2nd and 8th edition rules, which i...

Eh. It depends what they do. Moving away from spamming class based archetypes and dozens of traits in Starfinder was clearly a good move (though themes are kinda boring (take themeless, unless a really really specific ability absolutely matters) and the SF archetype system is a blatantly unfinished ...

That I don't agree with. They're really dredging the bottom of the barrel for material, in much the same way WotC did with 3.0, 3.5 and 4th. All they really need is a Secretions of Blue Magic and Book of Eleven Swords to round out the Copypasta End Times. All their new classes share the the same des...

Staying power is an interesting question (and something Paizo themselves doubt, given both the thinner release schedule and comments the developers made on their own forums) On the one hand it shouldn't, but on the other hand Paizo breeds fanatics, and there isn't exactly anyone challenging them ove...

Also, if we're carrying over the issues of Starfinder over from the other thread as well, apparently there's no listed price or stats for the generators you use to recharge powered equipment. How much authority do editors typically have to send stuff back for rewrites? It depends what other hats the writer and editor in question are wearing. If the writer is also the line developer, then the editor doesn't really get an opinion. If the writer is some freelancer, then the editor might ha...

The mechanic in particular has a lot of rule failures. The alternative to a drone is a AI cortex implant, but the base ability (combat tracking- a kind of targeting assist) is only usable in combat, and several of its functions, like wireless hack, are used instead of combat tracking. Another abilit...
