You guys are scaring my DM from running 3.5!
How about something more cheering than talking about campaign looting?

Re: Plain 3.5 - PHB+DMG+MM1?
1121068191[/unixtime]]I liked what Frank did for the one we're trying to start here. Basically, you get a choice of a couple of different arrays, and everyone gets to choose from the same pile of stats. Neat idea. I'll definitely use it next time I run a game. [br]Linky? Or description?[br][br]-Cri...

Yo, you two, break it up! This isn't an RPGA game, and Jon is with it enough to notice that a sentence is a fragment - he clued into the Elemental Dragons in Wildshape pretty quick once I pointed out it the rules don't ever specify a logical XOR.[br][br]Anyhow, to keep it simple, I've got him conned...

Re: Making the Warlock from Scratch
I dunno, Frank, I was pretty happy and overwhelmed getting a 'domain' once every couple levels; but then I'd get the whole pile at the same time.[br][br]Twenty paths just seems too big to wrap your head around; that's twenty different tactics with each of their flavors. But then again, with the path...

Plain 3.5 - PHB+DMG+MM1?
Hey! I've got a new DM, and he's working up a new game, and he wants to do 3.5, because that's what the most of his players know...[br][br]...But he's only played d20 a couple times.[br][br]Now, I've run him through the basic pitfalls of cross-classing and level problems; Dire Wolf Fu and Wildshape,...

I rather liked the second one, as the Advanced went to advanced, whereas the first one was Basic required Advanced, which was confusing.

Re: Josh's Polymorph Houserules
Size increase for encumberance use has a multiplier in the Player's Handbook; that's better to use than a numberical increase in strength.[br][br]That way the number from the Strength stat refers to combat-usable strength, and does not lead to balancing issues.[br][br]Also note that going from two l...

This doesn't help those who have super-sneak or invisibility, etc.
But it's an interesting idea. I like it. ...Except for the part where it's another set of stats to look for.

Re: New Planar Handbook stupidity
The 3e version of this just gave a special ability out at certain character levels - none were overpowering, or more than flavourful, but they were better than the pay-for-a-level get-less-than-a-level that they replaced it with.
I don't know what they're thinking anymore.

I rather like Frank's idea...[br][br]If I get this right; each character has x signature items, and then 'qualifies' for each +x item. Whether it's something from a previous adventure or new, or something he got between bellying up to the table this time and last - they all arrive equipped (as per t...

What's wrong with a class 'I gain monsterous abilities' which just so happens to also give you the abilities of the monter that runs around in your underpants without your control?

RC, Invisibility gives you a +20 to hide right there, in the middle of the courtyard. Cover and concealment stack with this. The Rogue has a +20 in his pocket. Why can't they hide just as well in the open?[br][br]If either runs, it's the same modifier. If either stands behind a buhs, it's the same m...

The point is that making effects that are like death - but less bad - means you don't have to make up arbitrary excuses to escape death.[br][br]There's no particular reason why a Barbarian who has just taken ten or twenty ten point jabs should die forever from one more ten point jab.[br][br]The spac...

So... Lemme get this straight.[br][br]Because hiding works one way in that game, it should work that way in this game.[br][br]IE, even if the Mage with Invisibility only has a +22 to hide in the doorway, the Rogue's +22 doesn't mean a darn thing.[br][br]Or since there's one blue dot on the floor, be...

Well, some of those dimentions can be the size of a postage stamp. Like the one in your rope-trick.
And for a godlike being, being stuck to one dimention would be right annoying.

What about the guy who's so good he kicks the lock, it goes click, and he walks in?

Why can't some long-term spells work like spell-slots?
