Well, it makes a good stratagy game mechanic for your rangers to be gimped and your fighters to be awesome. But it makes a good RPG mechanic like being gimped with fighting protoss but awesome with fighting zerg makes a good mechanic for the terrans.

Okay, try this idea: The elf ranger gets a list of elven rangery powers. the dwarf gets a list of dwarven rangery powers. they can each pick from these lists. an example dwarven ranger power is, "For the purpose of ranger class features, all armor you wear counts as being one class lighter than...

Quite. But it wasn't meant as an anti-archery tactic, it was meant as an anti-nonarcher tactic. "(Mobile) archery must compete with (standing) archery!" is ignoring that they focus on entirely different strengths. So, maybe that's a part of the problem. You get the best of being mobile an...

Parthian tactics require better ability at range than the other side, otherwise they'll just kill you in an archery duel. The reason people kept chasing horse-archers is pretty much that letting the horse-archers fire unmolested means they can just fire arrows at you until you are dead or they run o...

um, we do get that you mean being better at rangery stuff. the problem is that we don't like elves being superior rangers. we want elven rangers to play differently than dwarven rangers but come up the same on average for the entire domain of rangery stuff.

Answer: it would likely negate it as a tactic or just make it take more time, depending. If the other person's ranged attack has a higher average damage per attack roll when being used as counterfire than the attacker's shoot and move and the same range, then moving and shooting is not a good idea u...

Also, the ranged attack of a fighter that can't fly needs to be able to hit a flying creature even if the flying creature is strafing the party. Otherwise, the dragon will just use shoot and move powers and fly low over the party while setting the fighter on fire. or the griffion archer will fly jus...

I think in this context, equivalent means "equally effective, on average, against all level-appropriate challenges." The fact that one character may be more effective against some challenges than others doesn't change the overall balance. True, it's possible for the DM's choice of encount...

:disgusted: A minotaur wizard should be a viable option because it happens to be an option, and it should be viable because since it is an option and some people want to be a minotaur wizard because that actually bucks the trend of them saying, "me thog. me like ice cream" Drizzt is ripped...

See, it's dickish because the dragon has to roll a -3 on a twenty-sided die to beat a nat 20 from the top grappler in the party. That's why they constructed the dungeon delve at gencon one year to stop the greater wyrm black from flying around and generally being a dick to a party of level 20 charac...

And everyone else is not fine with that. But this is not even going to go as well as the WH40K thread, so i suggest we just ditch the argument and work on ways to implement the way that is different from the current way.

Or, say, do such things as pick you up and drop you, which is on the list of dick things to do with dragons. It's got a grapple check 12 points higher than an unspecialized level four spellcaster with twelve strength. said spellcaster has 16 hit points at the most, so if the griffion wins a single r...

IIRC, Librarians are pyskers who have won the genetic and demonic lottery, in that they don't get demonically possessed or fed to the Emperor on account of not being really good enough for any other pysker-only job. Then they survive the brutal trials required for getting to be a space marine. Yes, ...

heh.

But actually, in SR4 rules, that's a different thing. Knowing that this particular chaos beast eats his cereal with multi-melta fire would be a knowledge skill, not an active skill.

I thought that the Star Child cult claimed that the Star Child was the Emperor reborn as a Warp Entity. Is that true in the older books or only in the third edition onwards? The Star Child cult also served Tzeentch in third edition onwards, and was seriously wiped out by inquistors in the last page...

i say the 4E soultion works well for giant monsters or things that really seem like they should take a lot of pounding, and you should use minions to help protect the other guys, by having them form a wall/sustain a shield around the big bad, so that the real challange is to get the big bad exposed ...

That's Faramir's ranger army. He should probably go onto the list as an example who's even closer to the archetype than Aragorn.
No, that's Aragorn's ranger army.
