TVtropes calls the phenomenon "Badass Normal". They make the heros look good. Focus on the wimps is probably overcompensation for Mary Sue(s) in the story. No, 'Badass Normal' is for the Batman in Justice League, Robin in Teen Titans, Captain America in the Avengers type characters. The h...

I cannot see it either... keeps giving some sort of error message about how I don't have cookies turn on. Did they finally go and make Insider pay only even though it's still missing 80% of its content or something. Let me guess what they suggested though... A high dex/int(low wisdom) eldrin wand wi...

*Shrug* Some people just really hate playing any sort of caster, even big burly ones who only use magic for buffing, utility, and movement powers. For some reason they don't mind if the fighter gets those all sorts of damn powers from his gear, but they'll throw a shit storm if he just casts a fligh...

Even so, it still seems odd to me that non-caster classes can use the rituals. It's not a bad thing, it just is weird. I think its pretty sensible for a high magic world. Yeah... make no mistake, I loved the idea behind rituals. Letting every class spend a feat or two to get a mini-spellbook for ut...

Except that 'backwards compatability' doesn't matter except as a cop-out for when they don't feel like doing something. They've done several things that are by far not compatible with 3.5, so it's not even a real hindrance to them. So they're going to end up with an end product that is not actually...

if only they'd give up that damn backwards compatiblity crap, make some major core changes here and there and maybe end up with a good and proper '3.75E' instead of just sticking frills, bows and a cute hat on old piles of shit.

Its an arcane defender... in light armor. Just leather, but it gets a +3 AC bonus if it has an empty offhand, which... isn't terribly good, since it doesn't use dex in any way whatsoever. Oh, I was afraid that ability was going to be a flat bonus instead of being based on INT... and without even th...

It's means they're immune to those effects except when it's required for the story/game/plot that they're not immune to them . Which of course makes the ability total bullshit because that's about only time normal races are bothered by those effects as well. And so we're back to Warforged having all...

In WoW, maybe others, the caster inflicting the mez also loses his actions maintaining the mez; which allows allies to reorganize and prepare. There's only one effect that sort of causes the caster to lose their actions, the priest's mind control spell, and it actually just puts you in control of y...

Re: 4E=MMO FAIL

What about the Wizard? First, it's not a Controller in the MMO sense. It's an AoE Blaster that doesn't do much damage. Second, it's by far the best single-target controller w/ Orb mastery b/c of the clunky save system, but almost any class can get similar effects w/ good power choices. A Warlock, f...

No, its the 4e term. For fighters. People like to babble that they're based off MMO tanks, but those are based off fighters. Its a continuous loop where the game is supposedly being influenced by things that were influenced by the game in the first place. To be fair, it is MMOs in particular that s...

You're cool battle maps are still useless, but now the PC's have to slog through the Forest of Inane Fairy Folk. He also put in the cleric's fricking care bear cloud car power, that moronic ritual tha...

If 1 power is 25% of a class, and 2 powers is 50%, how much more can we give you to feel like a multiclass character, instead of just a hodgepodge character. On the issue of Designers thinking people played like retards in 3.5, I was just skimming Drow of the underdark today and came across the "For PCs" section, where it talks about advice about how to deal with Drow. It features such winning statements as: "Yes Fireball helps clear out ...

I have to admit... I'm tempted use it as a part of an adventure; The PC enter some simple, but inviting town, that's oddly enough not on the map. Once there, the npcs are practicly throwing quest hooks onto the PCs. PC's finally agree to one and the npcs point the group to a dwarf adventurer named C...

every single class should of had a 'striker' option and a 'far more useful group role ' option. Putting in pure damage classes is a crappy thing to do in a class based game because it means that all the healers, tanks, and crowd control suddenly can't be allowed to do damage (or at least any meaning...

No, no. See what you were suppose to do was take an actual suit of fullplate, then glam it to just look like a chainmail bikini or battle briefs. Best of both worlds then.

It makes me sad that the Warlock is probably going to be the only caster striker class we'll see for a year or two unless they do something crazy and add some sort of Lazor Cleric II: the Electric Boogaloo divine striker class in the PHB 2.

The artificer preview came out, http://www.wizards.com/files/365_Artificer.pdf I actually kind of like it better than it's 3E version for a change.
