-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've always been confused with the obsession D&D has with starting people out at a level where house pets can give you a good run for your money. Various rules to not make the first three levels such a crap shoot h...

I hope no one else feels this way.
Sex sells, rapa-nui, and you know it.

Look at the ridiculous armor that chick on the front of the 4E PHB is wearing. Seriously, if you're already going to put your characters into something sexist and impractical, you might as well just go all the way.

It's not like that. Players make that "20 years" delaration in, like, 15 seconds, and that gives them extra money when the actual game starts - pure gain. It shouldn't work because a) players are expected to have a given amount of money at a given level b) the characters must pay the cost...

You know what, guys? If Frank or K get the money, I am willing to pay up to $1500 dollars to make sure that TNE gets good graphics. I am dead fucking serious about this. My two caveats are A) the artwork has to be as sexy as possible. That means Chainmail Bikinis, Breast Plates, and those stupid but...

And I think that the 'shopkeep for 20 years' only points to a bigger problem not just in 3E/4E, not just in D&D, but just gaming in general. Specifically, the issue of advancement. For fuck's sake, if advancing in power is so boring and tiresome to players that they're looking for ways around it...

The real irony of the 'shopkeep for 20 years' problem.

You know the biggest shitload of fuck about this supposed 'problem'? Is that it wouldn't even be a problem if you nudged up everyone's levels, too. It would just end up being a really boring and shitty backstory that wouldn't even be worthy of a montage. But it wouldn't break the game. I'm dead fuck...

The problem with skills in 3.5E was that you constantly had to sink points into them, or they would fall off of the RNG really quickly. I really think the rank system just requires too much attention. The skill system should be more like Shadowrun's, IMO, where missing out on one or two dice won't l...

Idea for simplifying 4E: Don't roll a d20. Like, ever. Flip a coin. Heads is the result good for you. Thoughts? It seemed to be the goal. Rolling 1-10 as tails and 11-20 as heads is identical. The whole basis of a d20 system is that the expected average and median is 10 or near there, making the wh...

And if you don't like THAT, there's always the Exalted approach. If you want something done that's out of your power level, you need to find an appropriate number of elemental spirits / demons / gods (gods aren't anywhere near as powerful in combat in this game as in other fiction) and beat the crap...

Mostly because it works. The mystery and horror surrounding a formless entity that can snuff out your life at any given instant is, well, creepy. It's the Lovecraftian brand of super entity.
No it isn't, or Dragonball Z would be winning Emmies.

The whole idea of cosmic horrors is retarded.

So anyway. You've got this all-encompassing mass of destruction and insanity that can never be reckoned, resides at the center of the universe, and can destroy universes at a thought. Gee, this sounds a lot like giving the DBZ logic to your villains/horror story. After all, MORE SIZE AND POWER EQUAL...

I think RC is referring to filling out a spellcasting mook's list full of sweet spells. I think there could be a use for a 'mook spellcaster' table in the back of a monster manual in which you cross-referenced theme against level--therefore you could save time in later levels by QuikReferencing(tm) ...

Honestly I found what you typed to be one of the msot retarded things I've read. You were talking about roleplaying as though it was about taking the leadership feat instead of actually playing out your character and talking to NPCs. You want rules that exist solely so that you don't have to rolepl...

Honestly I don't know why we can't have diplomancers do cool things. There are plenty of fantasy examples, like the tailor who dupes the emperor into parading around naked in the Emperor's New Clothes. Or Odysseus, who managed to screw over the cyclops by telling him that his name was No One. I und...

Actually what your propose is the antithesis of roleplaying. you just want to say, "fuck your world DM, fuck the storyline, I want to play what I want to play, and I'm going to use the rules to do it, not actually have my character do anything in game." Roleplaying isn't about obtaining a...

And yes, the Nazgul definitely deserve the titles of morons. They got fooled by a halfling hiding less than 2 feet away from them behind a tree root after falling for the old 'pillows underneath the bed trick', which is so stupid that they make fun of this hoary gag on Sesame Street. Worst. Filler V...

Buttlords, shut the fvck up. You hate the CMF archetype; that's obvious. Have you even read LotR? Do you have a clue what you're talking about referring to the Lord of the Nazgul as "an overhyped undead moron?" They were definitely overhyped in the movies, presented as some huge threat ev...

It's poor RPG design. If you created 12 classes, and only four of them are playable, then either you have to jack up the other 8, or nerf the 4. Around here, people jacked up the 8. And honestly, some people want to play fighters. The idea of swinging a sword and chopping things into little bits is...

Meddle not in the affairs of LotR-freaks, for they have the books right next to their computer. Aragorn & the Dead (sounds like the name of a band): Nonetheless he [Gimli] drew near, and saw Aragorn kneeling, while Elladan held aloft both torches. Before him were the bones of a mighty man. [des...

Angel, I don't mean to be rude, really I don't, but haven't you been paying attention to these boards? D&D starts to come off of the seams for sword-based characters at around level 9 or 10. Up until then, you can make your sword-based character a useful member of the team if you min-max him to ...
