GURPS hasn't really done much of it, actually. Post-apocalypse was always a setting book that Steve Jackson had penned to write himself, IIRC, but just never had the time. Still, they did just do it anyway - After the End 1 and 2 came out a few months ago. As usual, they're worldbuilding manuals mor...

There's an old 3rd party book called Relics by Alderac Entertainment that had some nice examples, with short little backstories and many with unique powers that didn't shy away from story-defining power.

I've only ever come across resleeving in the novel Altered Carbon , one of the more brilliantly unpleasant dystopian books I've read recently. Did Eclipse Phase take it from Altered Carbon or is there a common ur-source? Yes they did, if my memories of the bibliography are correct - though it isn't...

Gotta say, that post they made against the MRA fans was pretty well stated. You should have seen how some on /tg/ reacted to it - it was embarrassing. At any rate, GURPS Transhuman Space has almost everything Eclipse Phase does. Cortical Stacks, a few of the various 'shells, the spacemagic, and mor...

and this from the guys that shat their pants at the mention of brain hacking. It's even worse than that, it follows from what is there that you can digitally describe, understand and control the use of magic using neural nanoware - so you could plug in a spellsoft and cast magic you've never used b...

So, glancing through Stolen Souls - some very unfortunate implications regarding magic and technology. A magician controls his magic the same way a mundane controls any of his skills: by using his brain. If the PF can control a magician’s brain, what’s to prevent her from utilizing her host’s magica...

Some player is ALWAYS going to come up with some crazy idea that the GM never considered. It doesn't matter if it's magic or a plot to kill the king that involves tying together a lot of rats by the tails and hiring a travelling acrobat. The GM still ends up ruling if it works or not, with varying d...

I guess in this case it doesn't, because apparently the style you and a number of other posters want to go with is SR superheroes. I could make some more ultimately pointless arguments, but I'm not going to talk anyone out of what they want to do, which is apparently Scanners versus Gundam versus R...

* Merge Combat Spells and Health Spells into a new category, Life Spells. A tradition's Life Spell spirit is its former Combat Spell spirit. I wasn't aware that a destructive spray of napalm, metal shards, sand, ice or light had anything to do with Life. As they also do rather interesting things to...

I found the speed/range table to be pretty straightforward. It's not really any more complicated than, say, Shadowrun's visibility modifier table. I never memorised it, but I just have printouts for those kinds of references. RIFTS skills values on the other hand, ugh. The few times I've made charac...

Bioware is a thing now in sci-fi and one you can't really ignore. I'm all for having some high-end street samurai ending up like the Ninja/Grey Fox from Metal Gear Solid or like General Grievous, but I think it's kind of bogus and sad if some don't end up feelng like Albert Wesker or Baoh. Sure - a...

...Cyberzombies in setting are some of the most pitiable wretches imaginable. Their antimagic aura comes from the astral pollution of being a tortured spirit chained to a corpse so unrecognisable that it screams against inhabiting it. Nobody who actually understands what it means would do it. Runner...

Unless I am missing something obvious, that is a contested roll framework that produces no information beyond success or failure, unless you compare margins of success and/or add a success threshold that you compare them to. If you just roll dice and look for the highest number you can tell if one d...

I hear you. That was the same reason our Cyberpunk and Transhuman Campaign games died too. Gurps 1-sec turns combat is the most boring Ive ever seen. It worked out fairly punchy for my Technomancer game - I made sure people knew that it was totally okay and recommended to spend rounds seeking cover...

Since Antumbra's quote mentions the existence of mechanics explicitly using MoS/MoF values, can someone throw down some examples? I can think of a bunch of things to do with them other than the obvious opposed roll thing, but I want to know what's actually in the rules. Anyone mind answering my gen...

If the total rolled on the dice is less than or equal to your effective skill, you succeed, and the difference between your effective skill and y...

It's straight up good for the game if I can name drop the Zhentarim and have everyone know what I'm talking about in less time than it takes a GURPS player to talk about what tech levels and genre conceits they're using. There are prebuilt settings for GURPS. There are quite a few in fact - though ...

The obvious skill fix for magic=utility is to make every single spell a different skill that has to be improved separately. This seems a bit over the top too. You could split it into Combat|Illusion|Manipulation|Health|Detection easily enough. Perhaps let each allow for specialisation in a single s...
