Re: Move Based Deterministic Narrative Fighting Game
A Defensive Move with a higher Bid then the opposition allows the user to Escape the Scene, but escaping involves “losing” whatever the main conflict of the Scene was unless the main conflict was to kill them personally in which case they do win by running and living. To me it seems to say that if ...

Re: Move Based Deterministic Narrative Fighting Game
But in response to this point: you *cant* use your special an infinite number of times. You can't use *anything* an infinite number of times. At the extreme end a player of a Young Prodigy can do a *maximum* of 14 things per scene... but they will never get the chance be cause to do so means bid 1 e...

Re: Move Based Deterministic Narrative Fighting Game
I mean the reason is because if you could use your special an infinite number of times, you might just have nothing but special tokens! If you could special every time, then you could special, and every token you build is worth 5 times as much as other people's tokens. Or MAYBE 2.5 times as much if...

Re: Move Based Deterministic Narrative Fighting Game
Ok. So moves can literally be anything. But I kinda feel that Defense being a disengagement means that the attack modifier does damage again the next round feels underwhelming. There is no stand and take it, because 2 or 3 hits ends the fight unless you just (successfully) end the fight with a defen...

Goddammit. I was reading an insightful critique of invulnerability and bypass oneupmanship by koumei, some good responses, and then some fucking crazy fucking take, "if we can't have N layers of immunity and P layers of bypass then what is even a role-playing game?". And it was fucking Pho...

Re: Why are Tome Feats a problem?
Tome feats never bothered me or failed for me or the groups I ran. A core only sorcerer is more mechanically complex with open ended abilities than a tome fighter with tome feats and tome armor and tome items. But then again... I've built and played a lot of sorcerers and full casters over the years...

I was bummed out because a cool mecha RPG was secretly PbtA and I didn't find out until page 53... but then I remembered this exists and now I'm cheered up again.

Re: Annoying Game Questions You Want Answered
I was thinking the first way. You're totally right that at level 10 it's too much rolling and doesn't matter, I was thinking of much lower levels. And probably just accept that whatever the system is it'll be broken when you hit higher levels anyway. Possibly with something like "roll 1 dice p...

Re: Giving crack pipes to drug users is good actually.
GnomeWorks, shut the fuck up. The drug war was a racist push to oppress minorities by criminalizing mundane activities... and that's it. People need help when they become addicted need medical help, and literally everything Kaelik said was just basic human decency to people in medical need. TLDR: Gn...

In the lore that nobody cares about, my game used 6 gods. There once were like millions of smaller gods, but they all went to a huge party that ended in a drunken brawl and basically all of them died except 2, who were in the other room making out. IMC, when a god dies, it ends the thing the god was...

Re: Rerolls on d20s from ability score point pools
If the TN stayed the same and you get a +4 bonus to your roll & rerolls, you'd be 82% likely to get a 14 or better (which would become an 18). To me that still sounds like a pretty big risk of failure if you think the character OUGHT to be able to succeed. With carrying capacity, you don't make...

[*] yes. I agree [*] from the monk's text: These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the monk is flat-footed. She loses these bonuses when she is immobilized or helpless, when she wears any armor, when she carries a shield, or when she carries a medium or heavy load. [*] that seem...

Agraham, the sorcerer of moderate power , was my personal DMPC for my world's largest dungeon campaign. How i run Hide is not in the rules at all. Roll a hide and move silently check. You are now hiding Doing stuff can move that number up (being behind/in cover, being far away, being invisible) or down (attacking, talking, spellcasting) by a modifier stated in the hide rules. Spot and listen rolls are...

Magic Circles do exist... but they have the same problem where they require an additional caster and they do not extend the duration of the Conjure (whatever) spell... so the fiendish antelope or whatever still bamfs away before the Planar Binding casting time is completed.

Does Planar Binding work in 5e?
So... Does the 5e Planar Binding spell just not work at all under any circumstance? Conjure (whatever) spells have a duration of concentration, up to one hour... and Planar Binding has a casting time of 1 hour, so even when you have seperate summoner and a binder: "The creature must be within r...
