I have GM'd Spycraft2 to great effect with our gaming group (d20 fans) and they liked the system. The monster/adversary system isn't that bad once you get used to it. I would often adjust on the fly and really, the attribute modifiers only come into play if you want a thug, minion, mini-boss, owlbea...

Don't have my mitts on it yet - I prefer dead-tree to PDF so it'll be a bit yet. I know some here have an issue with cross-linking to other forums but ... screw it: http://www.crafty-games.com/forum/index.php?board=19.0 A few fans have reviews up there and a few find some faults. It isn't 100% rabid...

My crew (four in all) were born via c-section.

Kids are grand - just remember to enjoy them and not worry so much.

Given the title of "Another nail in the coffin?" I was drawn to the thought that Wizards is really a vampire that survives on the regular cash infusions from Hasbro. Which I suppose makes it more of a tick than a vampire ... but still. Are they trying to nail the coffin shut?

I don't post often but this discussion led me to some serious thought. I believe that you can have a POL-type game AND have agriculture/villages/etc. without resulting to tyrants. Let me offer a conversion of an old 3.5 city from one of my campaigns converted to a POL-style village. Riverbend is sit...

All CCG have some balance issues inherent in them. Doesn't necessarily mean bad design. The entire PnP RP industry is full of problems that developed over time: they are known a "splat books". The only way any game can be balanced is if the rules are completely thought through and then lef...

@ Ganbare Gincun RE: 1 There is no formula. Seriously. There is designer fiat. The races are theoretically priced by benefit and then discounted or increased based on rarity and popularity. Hence the elf is horribly overpriced and the ork is the best buy for most builds. (Magic notwithstanding) I th...

That's why I have a game set in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA where I went to college. I can do whatever I want and the metaplot can kiss off. (Unless I find it useful in some way.)

I will second , third, no wait ... hell, I'll just sign the petition stating the matrix rules as written are broken. I'm not completely sold on the fluff inherent in Frank's rules but they are internally consistent and work well. Also, the vehicle combat rules are broken. Getting sideswiped at 30 mp...

I play and GM Shadowrun regularly. It is an amazing game and while I don't necessary agree in the extent of the caveats sated, they are indeed present. While I agree that Frank is your best source of information, please feel free to drop me a PM and I would be happy to answer questions.

I really like the idea; however it makes book-keeping a nightmare. If you have players who are good with it, then you are fine.

Gods don't exist in the "real world", and yet we have religion. Religion is ultimately born from a confluence of wishful thinking, an ignorance of how the natural world works, and our tendency as a species to organize ourselves in a hierarchical fashion. Forget D&D - religion is the o...

I like this. While I had no knowledge of Kieth Yandel's Diagnoses Cure model of religion, I have used something very similar for homebrews.

I voted "no" because of how the question was worded. Having a fantasy deity that is limited in some way - such as the Greek and Roman pantheons - is fine with me. Having a god that is all powerful and yet can't take out the all powerful guy next door, just seems to break the setting for me.

I will also vouch for the basic inability to use the wiki they have. However, I still think that the end result of the system will be WIN.

I'm heading over to check out your wiki and I'll be back later.

You can also count me as interested in working on the project.

RandomCasualty2, I wasn't advocating a mana point system. I just don't have a better, more (mis)understood word than 'mana' to describe the amount of arcane power one dumps into a spell. That said, I am suggesting 'mana' as a measure of 'magical force', oompf if you like, that in turn damages the ma...

OK, if I am understanding that goal, you want a sorcerer-type mage with more flexibility. Further, you want to strip the min-level out of the spells. You have recognized that doing so may unbalance magic since it was designed (theoretically at least) to be balanced for the min-level. This is a bit o...

The other thing you can help us with - so we in turn can help you is to clearly list your design goals. I assume - based on your posts - that you are looking for a scaling power level for magic. However, I would like to make sure I can see the whole picture.

Industrial Revolution. When the peasantry became as healthy and as well armed as the ruling classes armed forces, the monopoly the elite held on power ended. Simple as that. Village of 139 semi-healthy men with sticks against 30 knights on horseback? No contest. A battalion of troops armed with guns...
