In many ways the rise of an overt Nazi party is forcing the "center right" party to abandon fascist pandering as a side job. *looks at Republican party, sighs* One day... hopefully the next election. The second is more long term. It turns out that the Austrian Fascists have as part of the...

I am a little sad that the Nobel committee has been so besmirched by their sucking offs of the hellspawn in which Friedman M-Pregged out his ass. I'd rather not have Krugman's nobel victory tainted by such a sordid history. Neo-Keynesian policies haven't gotten nearly the recognition it needs nor de...

Give it to me straight: is fascism on the rise in Austria?

So, Jorg Haider died in a car accident involving himself. Serves him right.

Unfortunately, the article I read that in also points out that his death won't really stop the rise of movement he was the face of.

So give it to me without sugar; just how strong is this shaggy dog movement?

Don't they still have Officer Schools though? Where you sign up for that, and get taught the arts of "paperwork" and "ordering people about", and walk out the door with a pattern of strips, pips and crowns on your shoulder? Depends what service you are and what your rank is. If ...

Or in other words, to show what a difference a couple of levels would make for an entire army, note the difficulty levels of Tenchu or Metal Gear Solid. At lower difficulty levels, the enemies go down easier, hit less hard and accurately, and (most importantly) are dumber. Your character with his ki...

Dark age armies though, are likely not to have "recruitment" at all. They have conscripts. And yeah, their job really is to rush in and hope to inconenience a real warrior before dying an ignoble death. This point can not be stressed enough. Discounting modern equipment, the difference in...

Swordsage only hits tier 3 because it is so hard to negate completely. He almost always contributes due to his fat stack of readied maneuvers. ??? Swordmages chew, man. The bulk of power in Bo9S does not come from strikes but from stances and manuevers. The problem is that you'll burn through them ...

Yeah, I know, it's pretty terrible, isn't it? It's pretty damn hard to justify how lethal the setting is with puny civilizations where all of the citizens can't even shoot fireballs. I also had the idea that civilization used to be the puny races of humans/elves/orcs/kobolds/etc. but there was a mon...

What if we had it so that the gods gathered around their favorite races and when they got too threatened, they start going medieval on the asses of the threats to civilizations? For example, the sahugin haven't taken over because they pissed off Neptune a long time ago in some shaggy dog Tree of Kno...

Similarly, by how much does Batman beat Robin in one?

Considering that there aren't even rules for crafting in 4th Edition, I doubt that skill challenges were meant to be a big part of the rules.

I mean, how could they be in a game where you can't even do an A-Team Montage?

I do think it's funny that even after the 2006 spanking and the widest sustained polling margin between the GOP/DEMONRAT candidates in recent times that the Democrats are still acting sullen and whipped.

The wussiness of the DNC has filtered down, it seems.

I'm not exactly sure what your build is supposed to do, Josh, or what kind of rhetorical point you're making. By the way. I noticed that barbarians get some really good daily and encounter powers. As a player or DM I don't really need and especially don't want any hard and fast rules about making castles and kingdoms. I'll wing it. You also need to explain why you're against people wanting this common activity. If you were planning to use your own rules anyway, then what the fuck's wrong wit...

One can educate the Oberoni-oblivious only so far before coming across a wall of resistance. Hey, maybe there's too much ego at stake or maybe they are just stubborn, but the point is that Oberoni debates will only end in a BAWWWfest (ban-fest?) when both sides refuse to back down. I think some pro...

Sometimes, although moreso all the time, I wonder if overuse of Oberoni is leading us to believe that DMs have no say in their own campaigns.
There's a difference, you know, in inventing rules to make the game more enjoyable and inventing rules to keep the game from crashing.

Are people against heroics? Of course they aren't. The DMs aren't, the players aren't, the fluffers aren't, and the game designers aren't. So it's just baffling to me that D&D would make it so very hard in telling people how to be a hero and what heroism means in the setting. I mean, Frank and ...

I singled you out because you're the one who comes up with the most patently absurd foaming-at-the-mouth complaints, by far. "D&D doesn't let me build a castle, D&D doesn't let me attract peasants, D&D doesn't let me be a hero!" BS. D&D lets you do all those things and mor...

DnD authors like Salvatore want you to think that evil guys constantly betray each other and are terrible bastards all the time, even when they are the protagonists of the story. That's just not true, since those guys are killing baddies and in DnD land that makes you good. They may still be bastar...

Why is D&D against people actually doing heroic things?

I mean, the game gets all obsessive and droning about how the game needs heroes and you'll get to be a hero and all that bullshit. Hell, it's in extra big letters on the backs of the 4th Edition books. But in all of the game settings I've seen in all of the editions, the games have been disgustingly...

So if you're capable of casting teleport 3 times in rapid succession, you can reach a destination 500 miles away with negligible error, as long as you don't die/get incapacitated instantly at an intermediate destination? Ending up in a "random" place seems kind of dangerous. If the area y...
