The healing factor of paladins is basically what makes them good. Without lay on hands, they'd totally suck. Divine challenge is pretty weak, and their powers are nothing special. But they get minor action combat healing, and that's bad ass. Okay, but then how do paladins stop enemies from hurting ...

Are 4E paladins really credible as tanks?
Let's look at it this way. As opposed to fighters: Paladins do less damage with their regular attacks, have fewer powers that multi-mark, and have fewer positional manipulation powers. The biggest problem though, IMO, is that their prime 'tank' ability is not really that big of a threat to monsters ...

Why'd they take out magical arrows in 4th edition?
There was really no game mechanical need to do this. You can only do cool things with daily powers on weapons anyway and they 'solved' the problem of enhancement bonuses stacking on bows an edition ago. So what the fuck? Maybe they just thought that with them neutering the coolness of magic item the...

BUt, isn't that inherently magical in nature. I'm sorry, are we calling this by pure strength of heart or is this Flex Mentallo style where we have muscle mystery? If so it's still magic. I have no problem giving a sword-based/physical character magical powers but don't mince your words. Call it wh...

Well, at least 3rd Edition TRIED to give the playerbase insight into the design of monsters and tried to hand over their own tools. The monster creation system was fucked, but that's because the game was fucked. But the attempt was still ambitious and insightful. This right here is a giant step back...

Anyone have a problem with sword-based characters having a manuever that lets them reflect projectiles Star Wars-style? I'm surprised that the game has gone this long without it being viable. Sure, such a setup is possible in Epic, but takes waaaaay too many levels for a simple manuever. I personall...

Actually, here's a thought. Do you think that the game designers intentionally made monsters non-moddable in order to sell more books? Think about it. If you had all of the templates ever created in 3rd Edition and used monster advancement rules (in both HD and class levels), you really had all of t...

McCain treating Obama like a used tissue during the debates.
How can this behavior not be acceptable between two teenagers on the debate team but A'OK for the future president from the United States?

Mostly because the random hodgepodge of stuff made it a pain to remember where you found any individual thing. There should just have been a book of PrCs, a book of spells, a book of magic items and a book of feats. And that's it. Of course, it beats out the current bullshit of waiting a year and a...

I hate elite/solo monsters because they make PCs look like complete pussies. C'mon, 4 of you assholes ganging up on one creature and MAYBE beating them after 5 rounds of combat if you go full throttle? What kind of bullshit is that? It would be one thing if said creature was an uber hate dragon, but...

If you can't know what things can and can't do, everything that anything does feels like cheating - and it is. I understand exactly where you're coming from, Frank, but it's just time for me to admit that I don't want the same things you want in a game. To me urban Fantasy / Superheroics / Soft Sci...

Okay, here's a quick question: Why do we even want role protection? I know this is what 4E is going for, but why is this an admirable design goal? What is the advantage of role protection other than having everyone be adventurers and then just making the game be about them exercising tactical option...

Where are my damn 4E splatbooks?!
Wanna hear a dark, dank, evil secret? My favorite splatbooks in 3E were the ones that came out during the first couple of years. The softcover ones. You know the ones. They were dumb and not balanced very well. But I liked the misshapen, overly squiggly and detailed figures in B&W ink. And while...

The Hulk should have Brick powers because he's a Brick. He can pummel and tear, he can shrug off damage with anger, he can crash through things - all classic Brick maneuvers. But it would be tactically useful for him to drop one of the more obscure Brick powers like grabbing a dude and hurling them...

I wanna lose my gut and love handles really fast.
So what's the quickest way to do this without surgery and to do it safely? I've tried looking on wikipedia but I've heard mixed results. Hell, they had a sympathetic article on prolonged fasting (like some of the editors fasted for >10 days). I'm willing to try it, but not if it's dangerous or unsou...

I've also been meaning to ask this, too, but how come nationalism only got invented recently? I understand why China couldn't get onto the deal, but how come the Roman Empire or Alexander the Great didn't do this way back when? It seems like the (relatively) advantages of nationalism were just too k...

Why do we still have attribute rolls and skill checks?
Instead of attributes, why not just have ability blocks that automatically let you do certain things and give you a chance at doing rarer things? First we establish a baseline for what a 'totally average, untrained person' can automatically do, such as being able to sprint for however many minutes, ...

Actually, here's a quick question. How come people didn't just use fiat money much much earlier? A gold standard based on fractional reserves works almost the same as one based on fiat money except for the fact that a fiat system isn't dependent on deflation. I mean, gold is just an arbitrary metal....
