Well, something really needed to be done. I mean, a cliche good cleric is likely going to be fighting devils, if not demons, so it's pretty goofy that his enemies can laugh off flame strike, since it's all fiery and stuff.

Old school, dead tree publishing is basically dead. No agent will consider you unless you've got a publisher, and no publisher will consider you unless you have an agent...that's not nearly as much of an exaggeration as it should be. Even if it wasn't all but impossible for a newcomer to get into, s...

5E D&D should be able to be played with a minimum of three PCs and should comfortably scale upwards to about six or seven. Anything fewer than three aborts too many games before they start and no game with any depth to it is playable with eight people in it. Shit, you can't even play Mono t pol...

I dunno, I mostly ignore the cooldown powers, and the skill trees are mostly crap with nice highlights. Most of my perks are "+1 to damage", after all, even if a few are great. I think Skyrim shows that even if your game's magic system has many problems, even if a great number of the rules...

It's also a question of market, though. Roulette was big many decades ago, but it's fallen to videogame-ish slots. Most casinos have a few roulette wheels...and thousands of slot machines. Space Invaders was top of the world, but no game like that has any chance in today's market. Even Diablo, great...

That's an interesting idea...I used "every gets a caster and a fighter", which worked to some effect.

Kender are probably a worse cliche than drow rangers...the latter weren't outright disruptive to a party, but every freakin' Kender is perpetually stealing from the other party members.

I've had quite a few campaigns run for multiple years. 20-30 levels can work fine if what you gain from levels is relatively small (see Skyrim) it's no big deal. On the other hand, in a game where you're rolling 20 sided dice, and you get +1 a level, either the die rolls become pointless, or the tre...

I'd keep his stuff for 30 days, bare minimum, assuming you can't find any local laws clearly explaining what you need to do.

Just consider yourself lucky he's gone, borders have a nasty habit of not going away. In that vein, I'd be a little slow to sell his stuff, if you don't wait a reasonable amount of time, you may be vulnerable to being charged with theft or something equivalently ridiculous. Check your local laws bef...

I'm actually fine with largely linear dungeons. When you have so many of them, you need to make each one less of a chore to clear. Actually, there are some dwemer ruins that aren't linear, and are freakin' HUGE. That said, I find the "dungeon built by committee" thing that describes most ...

Or you can pickpocket the heart right out of briarhearat enemies, having them fall over dead, for extra hilarity. Damn near every skill tree has a perk that crushes the game into easy mode. Seriously, the game snaps in half a hundred different ways. Even with lame destruction, you can get stunlocks ...

I found the mage guild quest line to be pretty good, although I do wish those dwarven dungeons were just a bit smaller. That line, and the main story line, are the only major quest lines I've completed, all the others bored me or were bugged too badly to finish.

I think Ishy has touched on the core problem. There's no way a player could figure out for himself means that "-2 intelligence" means that orcs are less intelligent, so this is a trap option, and needs to be removed, or just make it impossible for orcs to be wizards.

But orcs get special stuff, too. The Con bonus gives hit points making for a tougher wizard, and don't they get a strength bonus, too? I mean, if some player in my campaign really wanted to be an orc without an Int penalty, I kinda think it'd be sorta-kinda reasonable to give up an orc advantage for...
