You can hold the charge on an infusion of you're expecting trouble. The DMG2 weapon abilities which summon elementals work well for Artificers. Warforged can have crystals embedded in themselves to get access to psionic powers (MoE). Then once you get the ability to add metamagic to scrolls you can ...

When a target is bloodied(50%hp) they take maximized hit point damage. Why not make it so that at bloodied you stop being able to soak SoDs period? You could give martials some boosted damage at bloodied, but even a 3e core fighter could put almost anything away in 2 full attacks from half hitpoint...

Is Pillars of Eternity good? Combat is tedious, class balance is absolute crap (summons, charms and AoE for the win, not too different from D:OS in that respect). But who expects balanced game play in party based western RPGs? It's the buggiest RPG release in recent memory ... made worse by the fac...

The game already includes a way of tracking areas of competence and incompetence. They are in the ability scores. Can be ... not in most D20 games though obviously, can't escape the math that a +1 is only an (absolute) 5% change in the odds. Further, in a typical game players simply keep adding poi...

So instead of having ranks going from 0-infinite have levels of untrained/Novice (+1)/Journeyman(+2)/Expert(+4)/Master(+6)? Why does any one ever thinks this a good idea? You can't have competence without incompetence ... and you fucking well need areas of both to make characters distinct. A fighte...

Re: Need opinions on ideal rates of success and failure
How often should a rogue succeed at picking the lock on someone's house? Pretty much all the time with repeated tries, unless they fumble. This sort of thing benefits massively from something like 3e D&D's "Take 20" roll. If there is no in-game time pressure, it's best to handle it us...

Advantage is just a poor replacement for developer discipline in keeping the number of stacking bonuses limited. Without going for a dicepool like system it's limitations are annoying, with a dicepool system you just introduce more complexity than bonuses. You can have a stunt system to give bonuses...

Rogue is the only one to get Skill mastery, one of the few who can take Trap Spotter (automatic trap spotting) and one of the quite a few who get half their level to find/disarm traps.
The rogue is relatively secure in the trap niche, with the Slayer and Investigator being the only real alternatives.

And finally, the fact that once you jump into a Paragon class, you're still on the class rails you started on, that's completely fucked. It means that none of the Paragon Classes could ever provide real transformative advancement. When they're mandatory the amount of class features you put into the...

Spells scribed into a wizard's spellbook are added to the wizard spell list. Otherwise it would make no sense that you can create your own spells, and all the spells named after a wizard who created them likewise would make no sense. Or you could say the process of spell research adds it to the lis...

Re: Real world archery is badass, sword fappers can suck it
Higher level characters and most monsters have little to do with realism. The damage they take from swords and arrows can be balanced however you want, regardless of the number of shots and accuracy you want to allow for your realism.Lord Mistborn wrote:So where does that leave sword guy?
