I'm shocked that no one has yet mentioned Mazes and Minotaurs, or their "Revised Edition" of the game.

Particularly in the context of EotM, smaller organizations should honestly switch to using paper for a lot of their long term storage. Which is fineish, since you can do ninja missions to sneak into an office and replace the paper documents the same as you can do ninja missions to sneak in and repla...

Earthdawn 4e, hands down.

Fixes some of the biggest problems with previous editions of Earthdawn but leaves a lot of bad design on the table for players and GMs to fiddle with in their own games.

Huh. I always thought that the fractional attacks was based on you fighting, not based on the round count itself. Eg: If you have 3/2 attacks, you get 2 attacks, then 1 attack, but if you skip a round of attacks in between to drink a potion you still have to take a round of just 1 attack.

Yes, depending on program.

And you don't have to explain why no one thought of it before. Literally if someone asks just say "oh well" and move on.

The Lady of Pain is analogous to Law Enforcement agencies forcing crime syndicates to keep their mob wars on the down low. Which isn't like super powers in a cold war at all. Yeah "externally enforced keeping it under the line" is rather different from the cold war's "self enforced k...

In a magical system with actual gods and shit, you can do this with external enforcement, let's say you've got some magical doodad, spell, curse, whatever that enforces a peace between the two superpowers, and will come down hard on whoever breaks it, but not so hard that they can't win. So... what...

Cutting out Alignment and its rules is actually quite easy. If just a handful of weapon powers, class features, and spells go away then you're done. Like, probably less than 25 well known things have to go away, and then a bunch of obscure stuff you can line item veto as it comes to light.

That's an interesting one. You need to cast a spell or find a portal to get there, but once you do you can visit people in their dreams? Does that mean your consciousness enters the astral plane when you're in REM sleep? Can you get there by sleepwalking? In the specific case of Earthdawn/Shadowrun...

So if you don't care about Vampires at all, things are fine?

Like if you want all the After Sundown types that aren't Vampires who could kill people but have really no reason to, then it's all cool?

If someone wrote into an RPG that not knowing any other supernaturals made you more likely to flip your shit over time, such that new supernaturals were pacified by introducing them to others as quickly as possible and trying to keep one alone in your basement meant they'd probably try to kill you a...

Yes, sorry about that. For a while there was a version on Git Book but then they tried to move to this pay model and all that and I just wasn't having any of it, so now I've got a version on Git Hub that's compiled from markdown into HTML via a program called mdbook which is super similar to how Git...

No, you misunderstand. I'm suggesting that it's just plain unrated matrix terrain now. You either are or are not within handshake range of a larger Matrix and thus can or can't do trans-matrix handshaking things involving Networks that are far, far away from you. Most importantly you can make Resear...

Actually if you look at the Signal range chart you'll see that standard commercial commlinks (Signal 3) would get high density handshake within 400m of a road, and low density handshake within 4km of a road. If the user also has a receiver module it goes out to 1km high / 10km low. So, sure, your to...

The more I talk with others, the more I realize that Deadzone just can't be rated. Jamming and its cousin Spam make total sense as ratings that act like Background. Too much wireless = bad. There's a really big limit on the EM you can have in a space, but the limit on how much useful EM you can fit ...

Pros:

[*]Use of the word "incorporated" for a Device being subsumed into a larger Network is probably better than "linked".
[*]Having any guidelines at all as to where the Matrix Backbone is.

So, one thing that gets brought up a lot is that the reason you need to hide is usually that you can't do the straight up fight version of the scene (eg: Frodo can't fight a Ring Wraith). So basically Hide and Spot (or whatever you call the skills) needs to be about as disconnected from Level as it ...

Well, you can look at the Shadowrun Missions adventures, which are mostly on the easy side of things, and they're available for 3e, 4e, and 5e, depending on what season/series you look at. Or you could just not worry because in a player's first mission they will almost definitely screw something up ...

Yeah, the Signal 8 that a cell tower has doesn't tell you how far out you can reach them , it's how far they can reach each other or send something back to you (when you ask for some data). Except that you have to ask for some data first for them to send you anything. Even checking your email is sen...

Thread Necro:

Interesting thing came up: can you provide Counterspelling to a target across the planes?

Specifically, if a mage is Astral Projected, can they still provide Counterspelling on their party (which is fully physical)?

Trill you're forgetting that Cages block their rating times four or less from going though the cage walls. So rating 1 blocks most standard electronics (unless you have a Receiver 2) rating 2 blocks even the good transmitters unless the other end has a Receiver 1 rating 3 blocks damn near everything...
