Re: Tome of Battle

I think this book, while it still leaves the fighters far behind casters on the power curve is a big step in the right direction. If nothing else it makes makes fighters interesting to play. That is a big deal right there. The biggest problem is that spellcasters are balanced around having an arbitr...

Re: Time Travel in D&D

I don't know, there is a reason that pun-pun gets the attention that it does. The reason is that it can do everything. There will not be any build that can beat pun pun. At anything. Pun Pun is interesting because it is an absolute end point where it is literally the most powerful build possible. Th...

Re: Races of War

I'm thinking about it and I would love for the foil action ability to have a recharge like dragons breath, maybe five rounds. To me that makes things more interesting, since the threat of interupting remains powerful, and it doesn't totally cripple certian enemies. I like the idea of the fighter sav...

Re: Races of War

one other thing some of the prestige classes from tome of necromancy are incompatible with the changes made in this book. For example death king requires power attack and expertise which are no longer feats. And (less problematically) the boneblade reaper requires evasion which your monk no longer h...

Re: Races of War

I don't understand for the life of me how a +5 enhancent bonus is better than a +5 to natural armor. True you can get +1 soulfire heavy fortification armor and it becomes +5 heavy fort/soulfire armor for a gain of +4 but that is still worse than a 'stacks with everything' +5 to natural armor. Second...

Re: Races of War

I feel bad that my only contribution has been negative since in general I really like the material. Especially the new combat mechanics and the new multi tiered feats.

Re: Races of War

I think the abilities the feats that grant automatic edge are overpowered. Especially the inisghtful strike because most martial characters (except monks) have wisdom as one of their lower scores. Maybe add the relevent stat modifier to the BAB for determining edge, maybe force both parties to add t...

Re: Anyone have/read tome of Battle?

They are worse than spells of a similar level. That's appropriate given that the classes that offer manuvers are mechanically superior to more traditional casters. From what I've seen the abilities can scale pretty well up until 6-7th level, then they seem a to be a little too weak. The cool thing i...

josephbt, that sounds like heros of battle. Tome of battle is a book with 9 different fighting styles and different fighting moves that behave a lot like spells.

Re: The Appropriateness of Psionics in D&D (or anything)

Making psionics hard and magic easy is not a valid difference because I don't see how you could represent that with a balanced mechanic. In terms of flavor a psion differs from a mage in 1) not needing any componants, material, verbal, or somatic. 2) powers mostly confined to force effects (includin...

Re: Alignment Sucks

I did law as city mouse and chaotic as counrty mouse. Where law is progress and industry and civiliazation and chaos is sustainability and nature and tribal culture. Tame v. Wild. Druids get to be chaotic and a city rogue gets to be lawful just because he's urban and a ranger gets to be chaotic beca...

Re:

I understand that blindsight beats the concealment but why does true seeing? From the srd on true seeing: "It does not negate concealment, including that caused by fog and the like." The ability is just called total concealment. [br]And for being incorperal it says: "Nonvisual senses,...

Re:

True seeing alone doesn't negate concealment, and I'm not sure that it applies to any sense beyond other than sight. So blindsight or blindsense or tremmorsense may not interact with true seeing. I'm not being countrary, I just really don't know how or if true seeing interacts with other senses. But...

Re: The Binder

I posted this, and running after some playtesting I think six skill points steps on the rogue's toes a bit much especially since there iare two vestiges one which grant sneak attack and the other which grants sudden strike that combined exceed the rogues sneak attack dice at every level. (even thoug...

Re: Playing the Same Game

That's cool for lots of effects but what about spells like dominate. I'm sure it's somthing I could get past but there is something odd about having to beat somthing to death in order to take control of its mind. Maybe they could do subdual damage? I don't know.

Re: Playing the Same Game

Save or die is a rotten mechanic. I really think it makes the game much less fun. I tried an experiment of giving characters hit points and soul points. Everything got soul points just the same as hit points but with different dice and charisma instead of con as a bonus. Some spells like dominate or...

Re: Playing the Same Game

The description of the spellcasting was a little confusing but I was working from memory. I liked it quite a bit, it could usually beat a mage but wasn't as good against the big brutes like a hill giant. I think it also got true seeing at will as a capstone ability. It also got a fighter's noraml bo...

Not just fighter 20 but to a certain extent the abilities granted by fighter 2-19 must be as compelling as those granted by monk 1 (or they cannnot or only partially stack).[br][br]In 3.o that was THE way to make a melee character. Take two levels of fighter and two levels of ranger and either two l...

Re: Dungeonomicon

I'm reserving judgement until I see the mechanics governing other Full BAB classes but under the current system I still can't picture any Full BAB character not taking a single level of monk as a dodge bonus to saves and AC of +4 is almost always better than anything attainable with 1 level of any o...
