="...through no virtue of its own." Paizo has done a fair few things right with Pathfinder, particularly in throwing a lot of money at good artists and good layout people, and catering to their particular audience. These are virtues, in a sense, and are worth studying if you're intending ...

Except when he's Lord Locksley or even the Earl of Huntingdon. The former Lord or Earl in either case, with his hereditary keep and lands seized by the crown. In contemporary versions of the story, he's a noble before and after the story, yes, but he's a yeoman from the point where the reader gets ...

I put it to you that the differences between the characters are primarily due to setting. Anything else that sets them apart is of little consequence to their respective stories. No they are not due to setting. Robin Hood is a peasant . Zorro is an aristocrat . You know what's awesome about all fou...

If you want to talk about theorycraft, then I am all for the removal of WBL and the neccesity of DM gifts in order to prop up character abilities. We are talking about theorycraft. Or at least I've been trying to? Cramming signature weapons into 3e isn't a really great plan... but I have hard time ...

Sure, I'll try. You want a character to have a signature style or weapon, like a character from popular entertainment. You want to port that character into a cooperative roleplaying game and have them do all kinds of cool things with that signature ability or weapon. Unless the game has been specif...

It's a game people already liked in attractive packaging. Nobody here is a businessman or an artist. Why are you taking us to task for not running a business or making attractive packaging?

HAY GUYS ZORRO THE GAY BLADE TOTALLY MAKES MORE SENSE IF YOU TAKE AWAY HIS PHALLIC SYMBOL

Can you condense all of this down to one post so people can debunk it more efficiently, Winnah?

I got no problem with it for Slay Living, or even Sleep (which could just deal nonlethal damage). But trying to make Charm Monster do HP damage gets all stupid so we need another solution anyway. We might as well figure out that solution first just in case it also works better for Slay Living. Ther...
This incarnation of Zorro rides a motorbike and wields a double lightsabre.
And looks like shit . He fights with it like a rapier (he even has an inherited rapier he practices with) except when it awkwardly has a second blade because...uh... well, kids like Darth Maul. W...

Is it really that complicated? Instead of just having one set of character XP and level you can have more than one. Presumably the bonuses and abilities of one class overlap instead of stack with those of other classes. If level costs double like in 2e than having two classes will in general put yo...

This announcement comes at the beginning of their effort to look for funding, since they figured it'd leak because of that anyway.

Zorro stuff None of those alternatives are things that can be done agilely and with panache. I could go into more reasons why it's important for Zorro to have a fencing sword, if it's really that important to you, although it's necessarily going to involve a bit of bullshit because of the four I'm ...

You said it was a book for 5e that brought in the Samurai class. Therefore it is expected to be a Samurai that can be brought in to 5e games as-is. Are you done telling me what I really meant by my posts yet? How do you get equipment upgrades. Not by picking it up from the still-warm corpses of you...

Context is important here. The comic book, pulp novel and movie versions of these characters may differ, but in the context of an RPG what is actually lost? Please, be specific. Zorro cannot slice a Z into people's shirts, cannot cut open the female lead's blouse, and does not risk having his mask ...

Zorro uses a whip and a pistol. When swordfighting or fisticuffs are inappropriate, he shoots people in the face. The Punisher has no signature weapon. Darth Vader is an accomplished pilot and Force wielder. In a game without space dogfights, his signature abilites are telekenisis and not giving a ...

It does not matter where the gear comes from, as long as you can have a signature weapon. If random drops preclude a very common archetype then that system sucks. Unless that archetype sucks more than the system. I like pickles, and I like cranberry sauce, but I know if I try to combine them in one...

You are missing the point. No, I get the point nicely. The samurai doesn't work in a game where get gets his crap from the still-warm bodies of his foes but does if he's willing to use some other weapons or can make his own katanas. The particular derail was about whether such-and-such settings had...

For example, let's say a character starts with a class of their choice at 1st level. Let's say our player chose Mark as their name and Scout as their class. They have 10 HP, +1 Attack/Defenses/Saves/Skills/Whatever the bonus for a Level 1 Character. Let's say the XP scheme is such that 1000 XP gets...

Yes. Because while there are places you can go in Eberron that have katanas as available weapon drops, just as there are places in Greyhawk with laser pistols as available weapon drops, it is unreasonable to expect the other players will stay in those places exclusively or even go there at all. The...

Sure. Also there are aliens with crashed spaceships and laser pistols to be had in Greyhawk. The number of katanas or laser pistols you could find is much larger than the number of weapons you will use over the lifetime of your character. But the number of weapons you expect to find is still zero. ...

Not exactly. Every GM has the right to veto characters at the start of a campaign. If you're playing an all-elven campaign at the high forest court then your orc and duergar will likely be banned. Usually people compromise and agree on campaign parameters as a group. And the players could also say ...

It should be treated like any other character choice - class, race, background, motivation. So basically, absolute agency. Kay. And I don't say they should play the game like I do - you can have a "I use what drops" character and a signature weapon wielder in the same game easily. You can...
