No squamus-bom wereshark may begin play with an Appearance rating greater than 2. Also, unless the player spends freebie points on the Linguistics Ability (and gives a good reason why her character would understand a human language), the Rokea can only communicate through the Sending—which is use...

I remember looking at this years ago, and skimmed it again because of this thread. A starting character idea I noticed was that of a Knochen with Batilda 3/Dembellah 3. With access to enough victims they could completely offset looking like a corpse one fist-sized lump of flesh at a time.

I only skimmed the rules, but it looks like simple Dittomancy can stack with itself. Pair it with Turnamancy to zerg rush. Thinkamancer link-ups are vague enough to possibly be as ridiculous as in the comic, but that's a crap shoot. Wharfs seems like a solid use of 2 Flavor.

What are some older 3rd party d20 subsystems that, while perhaps evocative, produced underpowered or incoherent results? A couple of examples: Athas.org 's Life-Shaping Handbook Dragonmech's mecha Mongoose's attempts at semi-ritual casters (Sláine, Conan) Hoping to cut a purse from a sow's ear, I'm...

I'd have to dig up a copy of N&SS to do so myself, but there might be value in comparing the MA styles to those in Rifts WB 25:China 2, since there is at least some overlap. I remember Nei Gong circle walking being kind of neat.

Alan Moore's stuff with Avatar is nominally tolerable (Yuggoth Cultures/Nightjar, The Courtyard, Neonomicon, Providence), and I didn't mind Fall of Cthulhu from Boom! and Colder from Dark Horse. I don't know any deep cuts offhand, unfortunately.

An improved version of Incarnum feats could serve as a fun way to model a character increasingly adopting a non-standard background. Instead of serving as a half-assed multiclass patch wherein a character gets yet another container for an already limited resource, Heritage/Hybridization/Planar Taint...

I am enjoying Afterbirth, the new Binding of Isaac DLC. I haven't checked compatibility with previous mods/using previous saves, and so am unlocking things anew. I'm currently trying the new challenges, and will then mess with the new character, Lilith. The new room and floor types are a much needed...

Forgive the hyperbole; I was speaking to the often vociferously professed dislike of rules-lites. LF is a one page joke game about playing Star Trek, while Cthulhu Dark is a slight improvement from Dread with a 1-3d6 RNG. BoL has characters that could fit on an efficient post-it note, with a simple ...

Acknowledging that many players have difficulty managing their disgust at the very notion, I don't mind Barbarians of Lemuria/Barbarians of the Aftermath as a nominally expandable rules-lite, Fiasco for storytelling, Lasers and Feelings for dicking around for a couple of minutes, and Cthulhu Dark fo...

(I know something similar has been in genre fiction, but can't remember where, but would love to find out. Also, even though I'm using 3.5 terms as shorthand I'd never want to play it in that system.) Gravlag: Gravity-manipulating Capture the Flag with frequent chain fights The Field: A 30m diameter...

I like the art direction (a rarity with Titmouse products), and the voice acting is adequate, but have been completely unimpressed with the script writing for Moonbeam City. I can see why people might compare it to Archer (less than fluid animation, adherence to a neo-retro aesthetic), but at least ...

While I'm sympathetic as all get out to this situation, I'm half intrigued by thinking of non-complex cooperative games over which your wife's friend won't pitch a fit. At this point I'd suggest Sentinels of the Multiverse and Forbidden Island, if angrily kicking this person out of your house isn't ...

Lovecraft's apartment from '26-'33 is available for rent.

I have been considering switching pieds-à-terre, and although at the roughest of estimates it looks like a ~25-33% markup for historical interest one could at least throw the most exclusive party at NecronomiCon.

(M)ethods allowing players choice in stat customizaton predate the fucking red box edition. In 1979 Temple of Apshai had one simply input a character's 6 attributes each time they played. Admittedly, this was to get around having to write data with contemporary consumer-grade tape drives, but the m...

M&M3 is already largely a statless system, which maintains ability titles as a shorthand, and to a lesser degree as legacy. The main advantage of getting rid of stats and making things entirely effect-driven would be in helping make a given character sheet more transparent. It's arguable that be...

Has anyone ever defined their character by the fact they craft rings? Alberich and Sauron come to mind. The notion of dividing Artificer into multiple advantages was more to play to the original notion of making 3E material work as a point buy, and was intended as secondary to the notion of permane...
