Re: Alignment Sucks

Sticking with the Star Trek example:[br][br]Picard is lawful, but he breaks the prime directive *all the time* because he seems to thrive on extenuating circumstances. Likewise, Janeway isn't lawful, but she does every damn thing she promises, even if they are contradictory. Doing what you say you a...

Re: Alignment Sucks

If you follow your own, personal code of honor, and never waver, then you are chaotic. Even if you live in a society that mostly agrees with your code, whenever you find yourself at odds with a person (or a society), you won't hesitate to tell them how and why they are wrong (regardless of centuries...

But neither stealing, nor narcing on your nieghbor are evil acts. They are purely a law/chaos thing. The acts may also be good/evil depending on motive, but are probably neutral in those regards. Law/chaos determines your view of society, while good/evil is your motive behind said views. Halflings a...

Re: A Compendium of LA+0 races (new creations)

That's exactly why I implemented the 'devotion' mechanic. It seperates the jerks who get by at other people's expense from the people from people who thrive on it. Turning in your nieghbor, or calling the cops on him is a lawful, and not an evil act by the way. Even stealing is usualy a law/chaos th...

Everyone has an alignment, and judging from the description given, I would say chaotic neutral is a fairly accurate assumption having never seen him in play.

Re: A Compendium of LA+0 races (new creations)

I didn't really change it, so much as properly defined it, and removed the ambiguity between what traits define what alignment. I did, however, add another axis called 'devotion', which is represented by using capital and lowercases. For instance, if you are 'Evil', then you believe in the philosoph...

I don't think my theory is incompatible with Frank's, but as it stands, I have already established the nature of the undead and negative energy in my campaign's canon. Re: A Compendium of LA+0 races (new creations)

Just because someone *is* evil doesn't make everything he *does* evil, it just makes doing evil things part of his nature, and make doing good things not rank particularily high on his 'to do' list. 'Normal' actions that aren't an evil act don't suddenly become 'bad' if the person doing them is evil...

I don't have any real problems with d20 Modern, but it involves some heavy houseruling. Basicaly, I tell my players to pick any core or advanced class that they like, and then I make whatever they pick not suck.

Re: A Compendium of LA+0 races (new creations)

I don't even make vampires *need* blood, they just crave it, and don't fight the craving because they are all jerks (because in my homebrew campaign setting, negative energy *is* evil, in a literal sense, so there are no good undead. Ever).

Re: A Compendium of LA+0 races (new creations)

I was never a fan of the 'wood kills vampires' thing. It's too common sense of a weakness, and has the mythology removed from it. If a player wants to stake a vampire, I make him use a stake that has been used in a cemetary to mark a dig site for a grave.

Re: A Compendium of LA+0 races (new creations)

A vampire can be vulnerable to a staking and still be immune to critical hits. If you can drive a wooden stake in to a vampire with a mallet, he's already helpless anyways, so adding a clause that lets you coup de gras him regardless of his immunities (if you have the proper tools) seems the easier ...

What if Fighters got an array of special abilities giving dynamic bonuses based on the Fighter's level?
