So is it actually possible to bump a necromancer's death magic attack into the stratosphere so everyone crit fails all the time and you can go play something not PF2? Your spell DCs are Level + 4. You get extra +1s on top of that at levels 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, and 20. Your average chance to actually...

...You Lost Me wrote:I haven't noticed anyone expressing interest in weapon golf bags at high levels.
I imagine this has a lot to do with how Wealth By Level makes it impossible to maintain a golf bag of special weapons, while at level 1 you can totally afford to field 3-5 different melee weapons.

It says something that scaling the numbers downwards never seems to enter people's heads as a solution when designing games. Forget 4E being 'gamey', trending towards larger and larger numbers is what's making these things feel more gamey. The scale of numbers is mostly the same in PF2, probably a ...

Laser clerics end up with 10d6+7 or so at will, but only really 60 odd average damage I'm assuming by "laser clerics" you mean the Fire domain. Domain powers are not at will, you get Wis spell points per day, and a few more based on the class feats you take. Fire Ray costs one of those, a...

"Checks seem really swingy and specialists kinda suck at their jobs" seem to be recurring themes in feedback so far. I don't know how they thought that level-based DC chart was a good idea. There are inklings of the idea that most tasks shouldn't have higher level equivalents, but instead ...

Oh yeah, Take 10 and Take 20 have been removed. The replacement is... well, here: https://s15.postimg.cc/5d958pitn/Assurance_PF2.png You get a Skill Feat at every even level. You can improve proficiency in a skill at every odd level (unless you're a rogue, in which case you can improve a skill at ev...

The difference tiny bonuses to hit in this system make can't be understated. Going from hitting on a 10 to hitting on a 7 boosts your average damage output (if you attack for a bunch of rounds) by about 50%. You're absolutely right people are going to be hunting for the best way to abuse that. Right...

The skills are fucked in several ways. They're extremely limited in what you can do with them, require you to intentionally spend actions for basic things (like "Recall Knowledge" and the aforementioned fiasco with identifying spells), and having almost all DCs generated on the spot by the...

As has been mentioned a few times in the "Fixing CoC" thread: Cultist Simulator sucks ass. It is the kind of game that will appeal to anyone who likes Lovecraft etc. based on the writing and concept, but as a game it is just so unbelievably opaque and terrible that you would certainly be ...

They've concocted a system where tiny modifiers to hit or saves can make a massive difference. The swing between hitting someone on a 10 and hitting the same target on a 7 is like +50% average damage output. So bonuses from buffs have to be bullshit small or they'll break things, but that also makes...

If what you're looking for is the trappings of the mythos- either because you feel an RPG is incompatible with its themes or you just want something with rad monsters and cool otherworldly names- playing as the cultists seems like a good way to go. You can have adventures where your cult squad seeks...

It's been implied that using "Recall Knowledge" takes an action, too, which is just... amazing, really. The solution to monster knowledge being so vaguely defined people just peek at the bestiary when the GM isn't looking is apparently to make it even harder to use.

I vaguely remember when D&D 3e was launching there was a web page (possibly a little flash game?) that walked you through an encounter and showed how the new action economy worked. Does anyone remember that, or better yet have a link to it?

There's also this: What does this mean for characters who are looking to make money by crafting? Well, crafting progress is based on a similar scale to Practicing a Trade or Staging a Performance, so it's about as lucrative. So if you want to get an item of your level, you're probably going to be be...

[INB4 they start adding things that give you more action points.] They're way ahead of you. Haste and Slow give you extra AP or subtract it. The only rub is that you can only use AP from Haste to move or make a basic attack. It's also slightly worse than I've presented it as. They're calling each a...

PF2 is replacing the usual d20 action economy. Everyone gets 3 action points on their turn and 1 "reaction" between them. "Move your speed" and "Make a standard attack, cumulative -5 for each attack after the first" are 1 AP actions all creatures can take, even at level...

Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like if this Pathfinder 2 Ogre is in a mirror match with itself they're going to be wailing on each other for six or seven rounds before one of them drops. That is so goddamn stupid and at least 2x or 3x too long. Hacking away at huge piles of hit points is onl...

Yea I have no idea what 1st level 5e wizards are supposed to contribute in combat other than cantrips, the 1st level list has been so carefully pruned of useful offensive effects. It's basically pathfinder where there are less good spells but you end up just taking the three that don't suck. Hypnot...
