I mean, they did too much faux-grimdark elements like the Horrors and the blood elves and that just turned people off. I was way into playing elves at the time when I did Earthdawn and my first response was "well....shit. Guess I'm never playing an elf in this game." As Ancient wrote, blo...

That's also what I was doing for some time. Then I decided you can easily make a 'convention conversion' of ED to Savage Worlds. Just name 'bennies' Karma Points, and don't worry about anything else. With all those dice used SW is like 'Earthdawn lite' rules, perfect to introduce players to Barsaive...

Earthdawn's setting was the main flaw. They really should have gone more generic since they had a better core system. So, you thing making a crappy dnd ripoff would be better? Really? No comments here, I'm trying to cut on the flamewars recently. @Ckafrica: The game world. Disciplines are part of t...

I'm not saying it was. That would be silly to assume, since most GM's managed to learn game logic. Besides, most Kaers and Citadels were built with minimum space, since that needed a lot of resources. But even in a cavernous location, with lots of space to fly around GM's have one great equalizer in...

I usually try, but during the actual discussion it turns into telling them how that game looks, and how it feels to play it from my own viewpoint. And convincing someone to take on your own viewpoint is not a good idea. You don't want mindless drones (unless you're a self-centered prick with ego obe...

I'd say the Troll Outcast Discipline in Earthdawn does that. You play a Troll that has been disgraced, and lost his honor, though you don't see it that way - being an outcast lets you retain it. And they cut out your horns. That's double trolling...

@Fectin: Yeah, that's probably true. It's not the thing then, that one I was writing about was triple-checked by a friend of mine who *shudder* likes math. I'll try asking for the original RB article, maybe someone still has it. @Avoraciopoctules: They're on sale online at the moment. And Earthdawn ...

So, what if they're basically horrorfolk? Still funny, but useful. Your players will never see that coming. :)

@Fectin: There was a whole analysis of probabilities, for the step system both with and without d4&d20. I'd have to look for it, because it was linked through the old RedBrick forums and those are lost (double-checked that, and the article was indeed on the old RB site, below is something that l...

Okay, I'm going to give it a shot, though I'm not sure I'm the right person to do this. I'm a long-time Earthdawn player, occasionally GM, and a big fan, though not as big as I were once (there was no new material for a while, so I grew bored with the game a bit). And I apologize if this post seems ...

If they play for a real challenge, cooperation and tactical combat? Sure. I'd go for it. I've played Earthdawn for a while, and had only one opportunity to cast a high-yield combat spell. And that was a surprise attack opening. Chucking it right-and-left wouldn't be that much fun...

And 'this is retarded' isn't a point in any discussion. Especially when we're talking about an half-orc Wizard. Orc blood, and Barbarian as favored class. Martial weapons proficiency, rage, d12 hit points, new class skills. I'd totally go for it. It would make my Wizard a lot more useful to the part...

But you're wrong. Oh I do love posts starting with that phrase. I really really hope you meant 'I (strongly) disagree.' If we have an orc and a gray elf wizard, they both roll/point buy 18s and put them into intelligence, the orc will never, ever be as good as the grey elf. A two-point difference. ...

Isn't it a half-orc actually? We're talking standard 3.x DnD races here, right? Just to be clear. And I don't really see a problem here. Not at all. You want to play an half-orc wizard? Go on, do it. You won't get the magical '18' on Int, yes. But you'll have a Strength bonus to carry more books wit...
