I find myself having a hankering for action rpgs like zelda. What good ones are there on pc for me to look into, and please don't say dark souls, as I've tried it, and am really really bad at it?

So, a while back (I mean so many pages I don't even begin to remember precisely where), someone mentioned something about being able to make the bard a good arcane gish-in-a-can. How in Pathfinder would one make a good fighting bard (the actual bard class, not a skald or anything like that), preferr...

Every time someone makes the fallacious arguments like that "it's ok to suck, because it's about roleplaying!" or "It's fine because the GM can tweak and adjust everything to cater to your bullshit" or the like, my soul cringes. As for the wizard question, I was actually more ask...

On a note that isn't about the vigilante (because I couldn't give less of a shit about even more new classes unless they're something amazing, which vigilante clearly is not, and I'm pretty sure pathfinder has surpassed 3.5 in glut of base classes now), what are some den-favored ways to approach pla...

I'm really just kinda always in the market for a good magic system, and have heard good things in the past about shadowrun's.

So, in the vein of this thread, how easily could Shadowrun's magic be decoupled from its specific setting? And which edition of shadowrun had the best magic system?

I do like Mage (I guess one could say that's one of my shitty games I still like, along with nwod changeling), but is there a way to at least make the spheres themselves coherent (not the resolution mechanics of wod or gurps, but just the spheres and their levels themselves)? I had the thought that ...

Apparently, the Monster Summoner's Handbook has a new archetype for the cleric. And it's a really good archetype, too, handing out Augment Summons and Superior Summons as a bonus feat along with letting you spontaneously cast Summon Monster. And this is among the other things the game lets you do s...

Free-form magic systems

So, I was just reading the old oMage vs nMage thread wherein Frank and AncientHistory discuss the various iterations of WoD Mage, and I got to wondering, what systems out there have actual viable/good free-form magic systems, as opposed to the near incoherent Spheres/Arcana of mage and vague delinea...

So then, since I have Fallout 3 game of the year edition, does that mean I shouldn't bother getting new vegas?

fortunately the aforementioned crash typically can be fixed by changing a single value and adding a subsequent line in the ini file.

I stopped caring about Exalted back when they failed to meet their first two announced deadlines. Though, I am amused that Onyx Path has released 2nd editions for both nwod vampire and nwod werewolf, and Exalted 3ed, which has been in the pipelines much longer, is still nowhere near existing.

Wait, is talking about how Summon Monster is better the latest hotness? Heck, is it a room-clearing encounter crusher? I thought it required a decent feat investment to not suck in combat?

And also have to spend from your limited arcane point pool to use the class' core spell combat ability until level 8. That's a big reason why I think Eldritch Scion archetype is a big downgrade for Magus.

My barbarian in a pathfinder skulls and shackles game did pretty much the same thing, sometimes freaking out npcs just by hauling his catch of the day with his barbarian hulk strength.

So, I've seen the shaman mentioned on here a few times as a decent class. Where exactly on the totem pole does it tend to fit? Worse than Cleric and Wizard, but better than Oracle and Sorcerer? Worse than most other full casters? Better than many other full casters?

Assuming you mean just caster level (as opposed to also spells known and spells per day), the price can be as low as a trait . Besides chucking fireballs, I also have the desire to play an illusionist reality warper, potentially able to blur the line between reality and illusion. To that end, specia...

At this juncture, I am more inclined towards Wizard, due to sooner spell level access. I just like spontaneous casting. Does the crossblooded sorcerer dip really make that much of a difference in blasty spell damage that it'd be worth losing a level as an evoker? And if so, when's the best time to t...

If I were to do a blasphemy and be an evocation kaboom mage (well, blasting and also battlefield control, want to be able to amp up the power if necessary and just blast when I don't need to go full power), would I be better served with an Evoker Wizard, a normal Arcanist, or a School Savant Arcanist?

Sounds like my go-to summoner would be the occultist arcanist then, since I'd rather have the power of full casting to go with my standard action summons than a meh eidolon.

Hm, so it doesn't. Well, that's just another bag of issues with that spell. On another note, for what is essentially a "Supreme Conjurer", that is, good at most if not all aspects of the conjuration school, what would my best chassis be, a Conjurer Wizard, a School Savant Arcanist, or an O...

Well, as for level, I tend to always think in terms of 5+. And I wasn't referring to only summoning, but rather the neat terrain altering battlefield control spells and other similar things conjuration has (Glitterdust, Pit spells, etc.), and teleportation and especially Creation effects. In fact, I...

So, some pages back, it was basically implied that PF Clerics are just straight up better than Wizards and can pull off most of their shticks, but how well can a Cleric be a Conjurer? Their standard action summoning feat is pretty limited, being based on alignment subtypes, and it seems Wizards get ...
