Re: Yeah, it's another one of THOSE threads...

However, when you start firing laser beams out of your eyes or punching through huge walls of iron, turning invisible or flying by force of will, you go into the superhero level. [br]I can not begint to count the martial artists of stories and movies who do indeed punch through stone and metal.[br]...

Re: Hide Errata-ed again....

1107726256[/unixtime]]Actually,[br][br]PHB p. 152,"Concealment encompasses all circumstances where nothing physically blocks a blow or shot but where something interferes with an attacker's accuracy."[br][br]I think concealment covers camoflauge. Which means the 3.5 way works. The DM can ...

Re: Hide Errata-ed again....

1107725462[/unixtime]][br]Well, camouflage is great to use while actually hiding, but generally it requires you blend in with your background and remain motionless. [br]Which is why you get these -10 and -20 modifiers to your hide checks when you try to move anyways.[br][br] 1107725462[/unixtime]]I...

1107722189[/unixtime]][br]Like I said, the flour thing is a good idea, but it's got some serious limitations. Most people aren't in a position to flood the floor with 3 inches of water on a whim, either, though if you've got other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. [br] - Flour on the ground. Unle...

Re: Hide Errata-ed again....

1107710909[/unixtime]]Frodo's cloak use of hide should be some of the most powerful stuff hide can do. [br]That is ridiculous. This stuff happens in this very world, right now, whenever a hunter, SWAT member or soldier drapes some camouflaged netting over himself. Given some very basic training and...

Re: Building things from scratch: Design Principles.

Sounds like you could do a decent implementation of that system in DnD, with just a few modifications.[br][br]1) there are regular skills (someone please think up a better name for these) and knowledges/professions[br][br]2) knowledges never have direct combat appliance (like, say, tumble)[br][br]3)...

Re: Hide Errata-ed again....

1107695368[/unixtime]]Yeah, but Frodo's cloak gave them concealement. :p [br]As opposed to the rogue's cloak in my example? Mind you, Frodo's cloak was not recognized as a cloak either - it looked just like the earth around it. And this is exactly was that example was about - how to be seen but not...

Re: Hide Errata-ed again....

1107676051[/unixtime]][br]Heck, change my example so the rogue is a prisoner, on the end of a rope leash to keep him from escaping. He just disappears, despite the fact that everyone's staring at him and he's not moving out of a 5' square, and is on THE END OF A FVCKING LEASH. But you seem to think...

Re: Hide Errata-ed again....

In that case it seems to me like you should just slap the (Su) tag onto any skill use with a DC above, say 35 and be done with it.

Re: Could someone please explain...

1107544720[/unixtime]]Well, generally you shouldn't have a game which offers unplayable characters to its players. Because unplayable characters just aren't fun. [br]Then let them make a new character. Really, if there is a way to create the type of character the player envisions and at the appropr...

Re: Could someone please explain...

1107527721[/unixtime]][br]Yeah, I completely agree, it's just that when you do that you end up with lots of wrong choices that produce unplayable or nearly unplayable characters. [br][br]It's one of those system design paradoxes that's nearly impossible to solve in an RPG. [br]Is there any special ...
