Re: 3.0 Haste

3.0 Haste is worthless until you get enough spell slots to make the "ability" to cast 2 spells per round at the cost of one of your 3rd level slots into a meaningful enterprise. That happens around 10th level, at which point, 3.0 Haste becomes a straight powerup for Wizards for fully one w...

Re: To be an Arcane Archer or not to be, that is the questio

Suck.

The only tangible benefit of the entire class is five once/day attack spells and a single casting of Greater Magic Weapon on your arrows each day.

In short - by 17th level you can gain 6 mid-level Clerical Spell Slots and no other abilities at all.

Dumb!

Re: The CR in the Creature Collection Sucks?

OK, it has a nonstandard grappling progression which is not defined. I was afraid of that. Essentially: the writing sucks.[br][br]Here's how a combat is supposed to go between it and a single enemy:[br][br]1> Tree makes a tendril attack, inflicting damage on a hit. [br][br]2> If it is a hit, the ten...

Re: The CR in the Creature Collection Sucks?

OK, here is what I am not understanding:[br][br]1> Apparently it inflicts a d3 of temporary Con damage with evey tendril.[br][br]2> Apparently it can direct up to two more branches to attack each creature it can reach than it did last turn against that chaarcter (meaning that if it attacked with zer...

Re: Draconomicon Prestige Classes...

The concept is that most of these classes are balanced against the first X levels of a Core Class, with X being the number of levels in the class.[br][br]Since as a rule of thumb, Core Classes are better in the first few levels, and occassionally at the end - this means that most PrCs are really goo...

Re: Draconomicon Prestige Classes...

Possible answers:[br][br]1> Originally they were going to do something cool - like have each of there be a "kit" that a Dragon could take, thereby replacing one of their hit dice each age category with a level of the class.[br][br]2> Originally it was going to be something retarded - like ...

Re: The CR in the Creature Collection Sucks?

I don't think the author knew how D&D grappling works at all.[br][br]It sounds like each branch is supposed to be acting as a separate grappling/attacking entity somehow - possibly even with their own individual locations or something.[br][br]Without reading the entire entry and holding my head ...

Re: Saving our party from inadequacy...

Anyway, is the idea of a PrC that is essentially a rogue but grants assassin spells at the assassin spell progression inherently unbalancing if the high level rogue abilities are given up in the bargain?[br] [br][br]Um... not in the least.[br][br]Essentially you are looking in the long run at a 20t...

Re: Saving our party from inadequacy...

The Assassin does, in fact, eat. And it does so for the following reasons:[br][br]1> In standard D&D, your BAB progression restarts every time you take a new class (even a PrC). While that makes no difference to a Swordsman, Assassin is a class that concentrates on stabbing people and for the fi...

Re: The CR in the Creature Collection Sucks?

Actually, that quantification of Suck is pretty appropriate. You find a balance point, anything which is in all ways worse than that "is the SUCK". When you are attempting to quantify a book , the question is whether the writing sucks.[br][br]So really, that means that anything which is wr...
