[THREAD DERAIL] The French women in my Infectious Disease class think that Hollande will probably win. For some reason that seems strangely funny. Of course if you remember that "in" means taking the class, the humor vanishes. [/THREAD DERAIL] What happens if the Socialists win? France goe...

Anyone know how this stuff actually works? Changes in conductivity based on cracking or surface deformation? I would guess so, but offhand, the resistance properties of a carbon nanotube was not something that was around when I was in college. My guess is that the resistance would change when stret...

It's just strange. First of all the cooked, chocolate covered bacon is COLD (otherwise it would melt the ice cream above it). So you wind up with a salty - bitter sweet (if dark chocolate is used which it was) experience. Then you throw in the ice cream and creme fresh and ... well it works somehow.

@tzor, nearly all fictional characters have a level of plotonium. And it doesn't refute Lago's point. Not to the level of Superman. (Remember the original Man of Steel couldn't even fly.) All of his power expansions were a direct result of plotonium. It's clear that you're just uninformed about sup...

That is what 4e did. And it was bad, because characters who are strong and tough are a lot less resilient than people who are smart and pretty - and that is fucking retarded. -Username17 So how should it be done for D&D? Which edition had saves that worked? Er ... First? Sorry I just had to say...

This is a terrible definition. D&D characters can rewrite most or all of civilization as we know it at will because they are unopposed . Superman and Magneto are just flat-out stronger than and can achieve more than the vast majority of D&D characters, but in their own settings they're at a...

EDIT: Also, Star Trek doesn't count as high-level just because Q pops in every now and again any more than the Arthurian mythos counts as high-level because it involves the infinitely powerful Judeochristian God. First and foremost, Star Trek should almost never be used because there has been a con...

Last Thursday, I took my Mother to the local restaurant. The chef/owner’s daughter works the bar on occasion and does these wine dinners. You never know what you are going to get between her ideas of themes and her father’s cooking. The theme was “Pigs and Pinot” (as in Pinot Noir). There were five ...

Why? How are they different? If it's a fully viable human at conception, how is it not reckless to put them at risk? Does this have something to do with intent ? What's the difference? The basic arugment has to do with the conflict between fundamentally differing rights. The strongest case involves...

Pretty quickly, Tzor was called out by multiple posters that the whole life-begins-at-conception rhetoric has some serious logical consequences. No, I'm just rejecting the strawman object that the only solutions are either totally irn...

So it took a lot of skill to use a longbow in mass vollies. Ironically it took no skill whatsoever to use a crossbow (only strength to pull back / crank the crossbow back to position). This was why the Catholic Church banned the use of crossbows on anyone but non christians. (It also could easily p...

I do know it was well after 1E. It took a while for all the 1E assumptions to wear off. The general notion was that clerics rocked but no one wanted to play them. People wanted thier combat guys using swords. Fighters were nice but some still wanted spell flavor. These players generally played Range...
