SHERLOCK HOLMES—his limits. 1. Knowledge of Literature.—Nil. 2. Philosophy.—Nil. 3. Astronomy.—Nil. 4. Politics.—Feeble. Do those limits ever meaningfully affect him? Maybe not but at least Arthur Conan Doyle himself wrote an entire parody of how fucking stupid it was and how all his abilities were...

Story-wise, Star Wars is failing to gain Marvel levels of shared universe traction due to poor planning and lack of oversight. While Marvel had their "Phase 4" movie releases planned years ago, and an outline of how each would lead into the next, Star Wars had Johnson completely undercut ...

Snoke was scarred and fucked up as shit. He didn't have to be an alien, that literally could have just been scarring. What struck me was he had the same trappings of power, same sort of explicitly supernatural planning abilities, and ultimately the same fatal flaw.

I thought that Snoke = Palpatine actually, after watching TLJ, but I suppose Snoke = Plageus could be a viable path as well.

The only thing about TLJ that particularly bothered me was the relativistic kill vehicle. The worst part about that was it would have been so easy to avoid it being a problem. Just have one of the characters shout to turn on the interdiction fields or something, would have immediately caulked away a...

I saw Infinity War and wow it sucked. I don't even care about most of the issues brought up here about the movie so much as I do about the godawful chickification of Gamora. She had her hands pretty firmly grasped on the idiot ball the entire time, and it was extremely frustrating to watch. Coming o...

The fact that some of the most popular video games in the world are all about resource management should clue you in to the fact that it's possible . But obviously what one can do with a video game that handles a lot of cumbersome details behind the scenes, and in a P&P game, are different. But ...

So, one of the players for my meat grinder dungeon expressed interest in playing a dragon. I'm cool with this, but as we all know, the "official" ways to play a dragon pretty much suck. Foxwarrior actually wrote some good classes for this: https://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Adventure_Dragon_%283.5...

Did anyone else hear that Martha Wells is doing the story direction for the next expansion?

If you don't recognize the name, she's the author of some absolutely fantastic SFF books like The Cloud Roads.

Honestly I really do like the idea. In retrospect splitting the feats up into a lot of small things rather than a few big things (but when put together has about the same power) and giving out a lot of them is a good way to go.

I actually think this is a pretty good idea. Pirate Bay may have finally solved the "how to monetize your website aside from using ads" question.

Isn't casting cost irrelevant for Mayael? All creatures that have a printed power of 5+ cost 6 mana. That's the whole point. I don't think I'm communicating very well. What I meant was -- none of this stuff is interesting for Mayael, but I like dinosaurs as a concept because come on, they're dinosa...

I play EDH online rather than any kind of standard magic and I'm always on the lookout for big creatures to add to my Mayael deck. Nothing really here though but I'm loving the dinosaur theme. Maybe they'll print a dinosaur commander to use for dinosaurs in Mayael colors, like Reaper King for scarec...

There wasn't any real reason for it I don't think, it was just an old school defacement. Shit like that used to happen all the time.

It's certainly not abandoned, no. I just transferred ownership to the people behind d20srd.org.

All of that site network got hacked, including Ye Wikk (they took it over a while ago, ironically because I was tired of defending against exactly this).

So I don't play Dota at all, but I've actually found it very enjoyable to watch in a sports sense. Kind of like when I watched basketball with my dad as a kid. I certainly enjoy it more than televised sports.

Diving into my Steam backlog

I've suddenly changed my gaming habits (read: decided WoW sucked at the moment) and had a bit of free time, so I started diving into my Steam backlog a bit. Here's some thoughts on a few games I've played in the last couple of weeks. Some of these are pretty old. Starpoint Gemini 2: This game engine...

The Executor going down like that is bullshit that I wouldn't want in any sensible Star Wars space combat system; I don't care if it featured in the movies or not. It means it's pointless to have an Executor at all if that's all it takes to kill it.

Alternate way of bringing down capital ships: forced boarding. This was awesome in Battlefront 2 (before it got repetitive anyway) and if the only small ships that can harm capital ships are bombers, might as well have some dedicated sabotage teams while we're at it. If shields form a bubble around ...

Yeah, I don't buy that bit of mindcaulk at all. Once they know it's gone, you're better off beaming it away to thousands of different endpoints if that technology is there. I'm wondering if aside from making the plot of the first Star Wars movie obsolete, it would have any effect on the setting itse...
