I just want to see them take a second crack at making FF7's plot comprehensible. The original is marred by a mediocre and often confusing translation... on top of being a gloriously batshit and convoluted game. I do not expect them to accomplish this. I do expect them to fail in new and exciting ways.

So, I've had a small bump (under the skin, colorless - or at least so far under the skin that you couldn't see any color) behind my knee (not where baker's cysts are, it's off to the side near that thick, obvious tendon that runs past the knee) pretty much as long as I can remember. We're talking si...

When my father died, his instructions were to throw his body out of a car and leave it to rot on the roadside, because he didn't want us to spend a single cent on a funeral. Hah. After handling my grandma's funeral, my dad 'joked' that I should dump him in a ditch somewhere. Funerals aren't for the...

The point about building modern civilization from a blacksmith's shed is illustrative in both directions - 'cause the blacksmiths had sheds for thousands of years before they could be assed to forge us any iPhones. The development of modern civilization probably isn't about figuring out how to make ...

My dad passed away today (yesterday?) and I decided to write about my thoughts at 6:00 a.m. while looking for ways to put off sleeping. Spoilered because it's kind of intense, I guess. Don't feel obligated. Just needed to shout into the metaphorical void, get something out of my system. My dad passe...

The answer to whether article 13 was stupid or evil is "yes." There is no way the EU intended to softban user-uploaded content everywhere except the half-dozen megasites capable of implementing a filter as part of the generous favors they thought they were doing for powerful media corporat...

You should be worried about this in the way you should be worried about a game of Russian roulette. You are obviously not too small to get the attention of the legal departments of massive and powerful corporations, especially since these days that attention is almost entirely decided algorithmicall...

The EU parliament just voted in article 13, which if you are more familiar with U.S. digital copyright law you should understand to mean that there will no longer be a safe harbor provision for content hosts in the EU. If you are not familiar with any digital copyright law, I will explain. This webs...

Should people write this shit up in ye olde Englishe and pin it to the door of their local church? It's 2018, the internet is the dominant medium for printed communication. I don't even understand that complaint. It's not anonymous. Mandy Morbid is a pseudonym, but it's not a secret identity. That i...

It's amazing how many shows would be improved by realizing they had actually finished and should stop airing. Media definitely has its own version of the Peter Principle - success begets continuation until failure. Financially, there's no reason to cancel a show until it's achieved a sufficient leve...

I'mma be real, I don't even know what Transformers is. It's an animated cartoon from my childhood that sold a bunch of toys and then decades later got Michael Bay'd (and sold more toys)? Kingmaker is made in Russia by Russians though. Dude, it's a goddamn Pathfinder game. It's right there in the name. Honestly, the current state of the CRPG industry is a pretty great mirror of the current state of the TTRPG industry. Instead of "hey, what do people want? We should do that," it's "hey, what were people doing before most of our players were even born? We should do that." Divinit...

The "new save every round" is not an apocalyptic nerf to the spells that received it. It's obviously not ideal, and you should choose action denial which is as action/time-consuming to shrug off as possible, but if you blind 2-3 enemies for 1-2 rounds each, you are almost certainly coming ...

I haven't touched the game, but with a glance at the wiki I see glitterdust, web, stinking cloud, deep slumber, and rainbow pattern. I have no idea how effective those are in the game. When it comes to CRPG's based on tabletop games, the act of implementation tends to radically alter balance. They'r...

Both Wolf Among Us (the other team) and Walking Dead S2 (post-Vanaman/Rodkin) were still well received - the sad thing is Telltale probably had a deep enough pool of talent to just keep on keepin' on if they'd understood their market position . But they didn't, so it looks like they decided to chop ...

Linear narrative adventure games aren't exactly a Telltale invention, and I don't think being deceptive about narrative complexity has ever sunk any other game ever. Note that Game of Thrones is simultaneously their first critical stumble (in the post Walking Dead era) and their last game to crack 5...

Yes, that is his dayjob, hence the comparison. But no, Overlord is not self-aware about the moral inconsistency of its main character in any interesting way. Overlord is just a bunch of shit that happens because. The humanity of the protagonist is controlled by a metanarrative; specifically, the met...
