Way to miss the point, Kaelik. In fact, After Sundown handles this well in that the King with Three Shadows has a Potency of 10, which is spesifically called out as the highest rating anyone in the setting has, and his stats obey the same "6+Potency" cap as all other characters. A PC could...

I am categorically opposed to mechanical differentiation between PCs and NPCs. As such, I don't want characters at the level cap to fight opponents more individually powerful than they are because in a system that I would want to use, that would be self-contradictory. Which side of the conflict is t...

The max level possible within the system should be the maximal power level possible within the setting. That's sort of the point of a level cap. But any given setting doesn't necessarily need to have zero-to-hero gameplay carry you all the way to the top. So choose from the following: - The players ...

In case you missed it, you're posting in a forum where the general consensus is that since the wizard and cleric exist in 3.X, every other class should at minimum be as powerful as them. If one option is DA STRONGEST, then it's clearly the baseline and what the designers intended all along. Nah, th...

No, they are not. The more expansion material you allow the better they get, but even a 3.0 core only bard, their weakest point, should if they are competent be able to contribute about as much as a competent Rogue, which is more than a Fighter. The spesifics of how, and how much better or worse var...

There aren't really any rules for that but if I wanted to hack it, I'd probably look at mounted combat rules as the closest approximation. Replace Ride with whatever skill you think is appropriate (or use BAB checks). The armor moves and the guy inside can act, but needs to make checks to move in ta...

I disagree with both of you. It's better to have clans as actual different monster manual entries than to make every vampire a Steve. There should be different strains of vampire and there should be some structure to what strains exist. It is true that these strains don't make sense as political str...

When traveling the Astral Plane, natural healing is paused. Would this include "natural" fast healing as you see on trolls? Trolls have Regeneration, not Fast healing -the rules are different. But both work on the Astral Plane. They are Extraordinary abilities, not natural healing. (This ...

That looks pretty similar to Eclipse, a game in the Masters-of-Orion-as-boardgame subgenre which is basically a lighter Twilight Imperium.

You are quite likely right, but if so, why isn't Labour taking a stronger stance in criticizing or even opposing Brexit, given the high levels of support Corbyn currently has in the party?

Specializiation is well and good - to be encouraged, in fact. But specialization is not the same as being unable to function from night to night without the assistance of the other PCs. And I don't mean "function as an adventure protagonist" here, just "live independently by whatever ...

Combat styles and character resources

We all agree that making players spend feats, class features or other significant character resources on specializing their PCs in a particular form of armed combat (Archer, cavalier, dual-wielder etc.) is bad game design. It pigeon-holes characters and it is basically un-balanceable - specializing ...

I would prefer to have skills, but if you are talking about accept I definitely think you can run an old school game with four stats (STR/DEX/MIND/CHA, a refinement of the D&D six) and no skill system at all (just use stat checks, class features and player skill).

What ending you got? Sunrise in Yarnham. Like I said, I took the easy way out. I see you didn't meet Orphan of Kos. As I mentioned, I ignored the Chalice dungeons and couldn't finish the DLC. So there's plenty of unexplored content waiting for my new character. Bld/Str is sweet. Cannon + ...

I did want the Monk's mechanical chassis, yes. That was kind of the point. Quite few bits, like fast movement, save bonuses and the Con damage, work fine for a "feral" fighting style as is, but there's not enough to stick with those only without totally nerfing yourself and there's nothing...

I'm going to be running a D&D game soon, with custom classes drawing on a lot of Tome material. One of those classes is basically a Tome monk, but should also cover ferocious, "feral" fighting styles like that of a Barbarian. I'm not great at designing new Monk style options, though, a...

A friend of mine pointed out something today that's not occured to me before. Although it does sound like WW goes a step beyond in ensuring that no one ever dies at all, which is just annoying for a game that has a supposed meta-plot. So, I finished Bloodborne a few days ago. Granted, I took the easy way out, because I felt like my poor character deserved a break. And I've got to say, as fun as the whole game is, when you do that, it feels like quite an anticlimax. So naturally, I'm going to replay the game, to try out a differen...
