One way to fight nebulous "I win" powers is to pit them against OTHER nebulous "I win" powers. Let's say the PCs are a cabal of high grade undead, and they have figured out how to steer space rocks around. They find Atropus the undead moon, and they steer it on a crash-course tow...

Giving the godlike psychic extremely low durability seems like it would open the door for them to kill themselves really easily. As DM, I definitely enjoy having enemies fuck up visibly. Makes it feel less like the game is all about setting up opposition to the main characters. Hell, their hit point...

-Odin stats snip- That's a pretty interesting puzzle. He automatically rolls a 20 whenever a die roll is called for, sees ALL events vaguely linked to "magic", "combat", or "his organization" 19 weeks ahead with his future sight (plus 20 instant knowledge checks to dis...

Glad that this was helpful! The incentive system created by this modular ruleset means that optimal planning will reject the "filler" abilities included in most classes and characters will all be hyper-specialized for a particular role. The gaps between optimized characters and non-optimiz...

Turtle man: 19 slots: 42 HP per level 1 slot: all weapons You don't care about Reflex, because you have so much HP you don't care if you get hit. You don't care about Will, because you won't be more scary than a regular enemy if you get charmed. You MIGHT care about Fortitude later, but around level...

Ok it seems your mp are your wisdom score and likely your will save. So lets say around 20 wisdom and 12 will save at level 20. 32 mp's? That literally less than 4 9th level spells. Maybe knowing extra schools/spending slots in knowing extra spells should increase your mp? I was thinking of a versi...

<t>Hmm... so the magic comes down from the moons, percolates underground, and then you get a bit of it radiating up to the surface. Sounds like things turn into FF7 pretty fast if the players decided to start drilling mana wells. I wonder if the book touches on what happens when someone wants to mak...

Those are all on the story-game side of the fence, of course, but I actually think these games have lessons and mechanics that the D&D / Shadowrun / "Trad" game playing market would do well to incorporate. And even on the trad side of the fence things are not all doom and gloom. There...

That Care Package To Hell adventure sounds really fun. Might be cosmically inconsequential compared to what you might expect a high level character to be doing, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Seems like it might be a really decent one shot if you want to introduce people to D&D with hig...

Good time for responses, then. Thanks for re-posting these! Monster PCs are pretty common in my games, and it's really cool that you've done the work to create such elegant ways to scale them up.

Looks like there's a website for it here, for those who are curious: https://vagrus.com/ Making one of the bullet points be "EXPLORE A DARK CONTINENT" raises a potential racism warning flag. Sounds like the game might be drawing from ideas in Banner Saga. I drifted away from Banner Saga be...

There's some pretty neat stuff in here so far. I've been considering setting some games in Fantasy India or Fantasy China, and the adventures so far have been pretty nice at highlighting mythology or folk tales that could be adapted into something fun.

Thanks, I might consider picking this book up!

Glyph of Warding is really fantastic for buffing and utility spells in 5E. All those marginal spells that require Concentration suddenly look a lot more appealing.

Still, I hope 6E actually gives us some rules that require less mind caulk.

I'm trying to find an edit of the cover of Sagan's The Demon Haunted World . It switches the picture out for art from Doom , and the subtitle becomes "a shotgun as a candle in the dark". Anybody remember where it originally appeared? EDIT: Found it: https://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop...

Most of my online tabletop communities are Discord based these days. I got an email about that project a while back. It looks pretty neat! EDIT: Only real gripe was that some of the updates force you to play a video to get descriptions of game elements instead of also making it available as text. But all in all, it looks like a lot of thought went into making the dom...

The Elven Accuracy feat provides at least one way in 5E to upgrade Advantage to Best of 3. There's likely one or two others.

The 5E Destiny conversion got a Polygon article or two a while ago. I think they introduced regenerating shield HP, some classes and mechanics trying to make the game feel quite different.

There's also at least 3 different FF d20 rpgs.

This one is trying to cram a ton of different games together, it's a bit of a mess, but there's some pretty cool conversions in there.
