I didn't want to clutter up either of the Back to Basics threads, and I don't know where else to put this, so here we are: AH, I think this has to be one of the greatest typos in history. And if it's not a typo, then don't tell me; I want it to be a beautiful mystery, like who really killed Abraham...

How is the Mass Combat system of SIFRP? Just as terrible as (apparently) every other part? I ask because the other members of my group are totally into GoT and are all enthusiastic about playing SIFRP (complete with throwing around house-rules on the spot and stuff) and I don't know a system that ha...

I figure it should be possible to look up the costs for the graphics and sound hardware the C64 had and just add that to the cost of a Spectrum. A Spectrum 48K was £175 at launch and the C64 was $595 later the same year. At 57p/dollar that makes the spectrum about half the price. I guess that the C6...

As a Queens-English-speaker, I shall weigh in with my two-penn'orth. In general, I'd say it depended on context. I suspect that 'slag' would be considered a worse insult when directed at the female half of the population. I should think calling someone a 'berk' to tend to be milder than a 'fuck(er)'...

Monowhips come from Shigawire in Dune. Shadowrun (and Cyberpunk) have them because there was a character with a monowhip attached to a fake fingertip in Gibson's Burning Chrome. But Frank Herbert did it 17 years earlier than Gibson did. -Username17 Larry Niven had the monowire-encased-in-a-forcefie...

Well, as computing continues to get cheaper, robots get cheaper and software improves, a lot of those minimum wage people may well be out-competed by automation anyway.

I never considered negative xp. Back in the old days, I just added in full cleric casting, and enough other stuff to balance out the negatives to a total of +1/4 for my theoretical before I got bored of it. I figured that way you needed 7kxp to reach level 9 and 7.5k per level thereafter and called ...

Make sure you're aware of the board culture before you are surprised by some of the language. I have been impressed by the way there can be sensible to-and-fro discussions, possibly with one side even admitting to changing their mind about something, while both sides simultaneously say things about ...

So, I would think that anyone raised christian heard about the armour of god growing up. I don't know if it's a bigger deal in certain varieties than other, but I was familiar with the idea. I don't think it's a Catholic thing. At least I didn't get to hear of it, and I went to Catholic schools. It...
