(first post w00t!) When did everyone else first realize that something had gone seriously sideways with PF development? For me, I didn't follow the game much until Beta but heard a lot of vague good stuff, but then I stumbled across a comment by James Jacobs: "most of the later base classes (d...

Darwinism, Don't bother. You're not going to find anyone open-minded in this thread. Every poster seems to have already made up their mind and will go as far as to blatantly make up stuff like believing that DCs in adventures auto-adjust to your party level when in fact, while being completely unab...

I said there was a lack of choice because 1 person can't do enough DPS. 4 however can, and that's the party size. Round 1: Priest uses Gritty Ditty, fastest Gladiator uses the appropriate Fource, other two Falcon Slash. Boss beats the crap out of you. Round 2: Everyone Falcon Slashes. The Priest go...

I think Manxome has a point here. 'Bonus bosses' do not feel like an appropriate measure of a game. I also feel that the second video is an example of a steady state because the characters are all being healed to full each turn. Even the first one is pretty close to steady state as well in my opini...

So after not playing D&D for a while I randomly discovered an amusing build. After working out the details on it, I decided that I would like to play it. So I post on a PbP forum looking for a DM. I make it very clear, among other things I am looking for a skilled optimizer DM not scared of powe...

Then you haven't played very long. The hard bosses regularly nuke your whole party for 300+. While Forebearance and the shield scroll works fine for the criticals, it means a single AoE nuke auto kills the tank. Which, among other things means other attacks can hit whoever they want. They get 3 tur...

So you're suggesting that a defensive posture is not the best strategy, because the boss has a random chance of doing damage that you can't recover from, and thus you will eventually die no matter how defensively you play? That could in principle be a valid objection, but I'm pretty sure it's untru...

Roy: You seem to be missing my point. Of course if you bring enough raw power to bear on a weak enough boss, you can kill him with essentially any strategy. But in DQ9, judging from my experience, a "steady state" strategy can beat a boss with a weaker party than any other. Well no. Becau...

The main problem with Tier 3 and lower classes is the lack of IP proofing techniques. If you don't know what that is, Google it. Third link, and the only one that has anything to do with D&D. For example: Only Bards can cast Greater/Superior Resistance. As far as I know, you flat out can't get C...

Was that a RL game or online?
Online.

An example of TO is Pun-Pun. They aren't all this crazy, but they do go well beyond the bounds of practical optimization.

Also, regarding Tiers in general. As much as Jaron is smiteworthy, and as much as I am happy to see him beaten down by his superiors (everyone), pointing out differences in player skill is not a valid argument. After all, Tier systems have always assumed equal skill. This is why a noob with Metaknig...

Several people say as much. You know... I'm one of those people and I forget that people are on both boards like me and Robby. I also was unaware that Jaronk did that as an M.O., but it does explain a lot. LOL desmondu warbats. JaronK is of course most famous for his massive thought experiments int...

It's common practice for him. If it supports his argument, it's on. If not, it's not. Even if it's the same exact thing. He's like the Monk defenders. Exactly like them. Has to make up contrived situations, massively nerf the enemies, and still only barely justifies his fail. Real opponents of cours...

He attempted to claim that a super genius Ice Devil (Int 22, Wis 22) who acts remotely intelligently, uses basic tactics, and knows at least a little about the party is +2 CR (originally he said +5, but he was smited so hard he changed to +2). Because apparently, it's supposed to roam around ice fi...

Smite Imbeciles aside, what being a Jaron means, specifically is that if you play at any level higher than a mouth breathing fuckwit, you will be nerfed. Either because it "raises your CR by some vastly inflated amount, so less XP" or because it makes him and his gimpy characters feel smal...

You're really pissed at Jaron, aren't you? Angry? No, not at all. You should really know this by now, but I can harbor the utmost contempt for someone, or something without the slightest bit of anger. And he is an acceptable target. Are we talking about JaronK? I have seen him on BG and Giantitp......

Exactly :) Problem is, at least in my experience, there are only so many amazing DMs out there. And for every amazing one you get a handful of Shadzars.
And a larger number of Elennsars, and a still larger number of Jarons.

Lots of Final Fantasy games do a thing where trash mobs die in 1-2 hits, yet their max HP* is still higher than your party's, because the damage you do to them per attack is about ten times the damage they do to you per attack. The asymmetry doesn't really matter for most purposes, but it means dum...

Actually... In most JRPGs, including the Final Fantasy series trash mobs (aka, anything not a boss) dies in 1-2 hits. The bosses are sometimes subject to the high HP low damage thing, particularly in the later Final Fantasy games, and the later Wizardry games. Dragon Quest actually does a good job o...

that is quite literally Powered by Failure. It's not just the class that's powered by failure. I feel we have some sort of slogan here, it just needs some polishing. "Paizo: we're Powered by Failure!" perhaps? Or "Paizo: your Failure just makes us stronger!" maybe? Someone get a...
