A scout review and Chapter 2 will be coming tomorrow, I just got back from Thanksgiving.

It looks like you guys beat me to the punch for a lot of this but I'll do what I can.

Angry Blind Readthrough: Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

So I made a terrible mistake a few months back and joined Adventurer's League because, well, I didn't have anyone else to play with. After a few notable sessions (including one module that was so bad the DM literally apologized for having to run it) I was out, but not before preordering this book in...

Um,

Can anyone explain to me why the Necro Magic tradition needs new rules and can't just be a possession tradition with a darker flavor?

Anyone? Seriously, the tradition rules are stupid.

I feel compelled to point out once again that Mearls had an entire article on how powerful monsters should have straight-up SoDs for dramatic tension (https://web.archive.org/web/20130509173749/http://wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20120305). Literally every complaint I have seen from people...

Caster supremacy in 3.5 means exactly the same thing it does in 5e. Players who have a suffiicient amount of system mastery can make spellcasters that make warriors feel small in the pants. Also too, the higher level monsters are well out of reach of all but the most finely tuned warrior builds to ...

Yea, I'm not really sure where all the love for 5e comes from. People tend to go on about how simplified it is, but really that's code for "the game is barebones and you can't do anything cool."

So I was going for necromancer (decided not to do the fighter respec after all) but the first 1-4 levels in AL are extraordinarily painful. Sleep is basically worthless as everything has 40+ HP (really), blasting spells are as usual shit, and all the save every round spells are pretty bad because sa...

Ugh, playing adventurer's league and it's really driving home what a shit system 5e is, Inflated hit points are everywhere and it's very hard to come up with a build that can actually contribute rather than hitting for mediocre damage. Spell saves are incredibly swingy so the old strategy of save-or...

So maybe I'm a crazy person, but can't you just do a plague or a flood or some shit?

You can open to almost any page of the old testament and a natural disaster is a huge enough event in the iron ages that it may as well be a nuclear war.

It's not snowflakes, they just all agree to sandbag with Wizards and Clerics. Sandbagging implies you know what you're doing and are holding back the good stuff until the DM busts out something the party can't normally handle. A fighter is going to outshine a cleric who prepares 100% cure spells, a...

Also Portent is a broken ability and is so obviously broken I don't know how it was written. Sure, let the Wizard decide what his target's saving throw will be with no action taken on the Wizard's part. That won't make literally any fight they decide to use that ability on a guaranteed win. It's ne...

Analysis I hate to be a massive jackass after you provided entertainment on the internet for free...but I have to agree with a lot of what you said. A lot of the game felt like a "random events happened" plot where we went to the fire swamp, lost 4 guys, and then picked up a shadow party ...

There are species of ants that farm anyway. It makes a lot more sense for the Tyranids to be attacking the other species for the sake of eliminating competition and the biomass is just a bonus. Sure, you can grow all the food you want on trees, but when the humans have a standing order of "kill...

I don't even know how this makes it simpler, there's more shit to track for a gain of what?

Not to mention the "my spell has a ranged attack roll" arguments you briefly touched on.
