Wouldn't supply/demand mechanic of economy increase the number of hippogriffs in the market, by virtue of natural greed on the part of breeders and vendors looking for a way to get rich quick, and eventually there would be a surplus of hippogriffs? THERE IS NO ECONOMY. Except for the PC's, of cours...

But then we showed how as levels progress, you're going to more often spend several rounds making the choice between one o two at-wills you're going to spam for the rest of combat. Once you hit paragon tier, as levels go up you spend more time in combat doing the same bullshit over and over. So, wh...

Yeah, 3.5 definitely isn't perfect by any means. We all have a mountain of house rules that say otherwise. Lets cut the bullshit about 3.5 being so awesome and 4E sucking. If 3.5 was so great, you wouldn't need 100+pages of house rules. That's just silly. Nobody claims 3.5 was perfect. 4E's flaw is...

Can we either compare level 1 or level 9, but not both at once? Beyond the early levels, there is virtually no benefit to a fighter using a ranged weapon. Do the math, and you'll see that. [W]+str damage is still better than zero, so you still want a ranged weapon for open battles, being immobilise...

So far, we are using: 1. No skills. They simply don't work. 2. No Fighters. They simply don't work. 3. Damage bonus of +L/2. Strikers get an extra +1d6 per tier. 4. To Hit bonuses of L/4. 5. Paladin marks all opponents w/ a free action, mark does -4 and 6 +L/2 damage. Paladin can force an opponet to...

The 4e fighter prefers melee to ranged, but if the enemy are spotted at a distance, for example, then a heavy thrown weapon is a sensible addition to the available options. Beyond the early levels, there is virtually no benefit to a fighter using a ranged weapon. Do the math, and you'll see that. D...

Well, that does potentially give him another five combat options, depending on which magic items he has. Not really. Almost all Item powers are Dailys, and you get only one of those until the teens. You do get to choose which one of them you use, so I guess you could count that one action as five &...

Yeah, once the Fighter's 2/level skill points are being spent on Search and Disable Device, his ability to contribute out-of-combat steps way up. Question: Can a core 3E fighter contribute out of combat? Answer: Yes, easily. Take Intimidate and Craft. Or, max cross-ranks and buy a skill rod. Or, be...

Intimidate? Besides, 3.5 has multiclassing. Be a Rogue1/Ftrx. You're as good at any non-combat skill as you want to be. In 4E, there's not much for a Fighter to do out of combat. B/c of ability problems you suck at all the interesting non-combat skills. And rituals blow - that's a quick way to fall...

Well the 4E fighter can actually learn rituals or get skill training and be good at some noncombat stuff. The 3.5 fighter will never be good at noncombat, no matter what you do. You can't even be good at a given noncombat skill because 3E bones cross class skills so badly that it isn't even worth i...

The downside is that you've got to keep track of which powers you've used, which is additional book-keeping. I don't see that as a big deal but I'm prepared to get argued into submission that I'm wrong. 8) You can get a similar, but slightly different, effect with a point system and counters. Playe...

Why is the Rogue an accessible target? Because he's played by an idiot? Since you like the MMO analogy, I'll remind you that rogues that are played by idiots get stomped in WoW too. If the rogue plays well, he'll be inaccessible to melee monsters enough of the time that he dies after the defender d...

I don't agree that Defender is stupid on general principles. It's a core concept for milions of gamers, and I know a few people who really, really like the idea of playing the tough character that sucks up all the damage and keeps the other guys safe. I can't see a good way to create a PnP game that...

The part I don't get is where the authors of 4e think that being a guy with decent defenses who draws fire is one of the central 4 character roles. That's just silly, because there are two other means of being a defensive character that are at least as easy to implement. Indeed, 4e design seems to ...

4E really kind of does assume you know what you're doing. It's based off min/maxed characters being played relatively well. Not really. It's based on min-maxed characters played randomly. Min-maxed b/c if you fall off the RNG, at all, you're worthless. Randomly, b/c it doesn't matter what you choos...

The orcs attack. There's a big fight between them and you + the militia. You win, because you're awesome. However, in the fight a young lad of 17 dies, the son of the innkeeper who put you up. Now you have a dilemma. Do you spend your cash on a resurrection for the poor lad, or keep it to maintain ...

The Swordmage description is riddled w/ errors. Fortunately, you can figure out how it's supposed to work. Given we only see 7 powers, this class could be half-way decent. Remember, 15 points of damage is a lot of damage in this game, and the Swordmage is sucking at least that much from every marked...
