I think back on Brilliant Gameologists we reached the conclusion that the 3 core books where by far the most imbalanced, if you removed all three what was left was a lot more balanced. You'd have to leave some spells and feats that aren't replicated elsewhere of course. If you where going for somet...

A major factor here is going to be player optimization capabilities. -Keep in mind 3.0 tripping is more awesome than 3.5 tripping. This makes fighters more useful. -There is no golemstrike or (whatever its called that lets rogues SA undead), iirc. This makes rogues quite a bit weaker. -TWF doesn't w...

Only allow the Archivist, Beguiler, Cleric, Druid, Dread Necromancer, Psion, Sorcerer, and Wizard classes. These classes all handle standard encounters pretty well and stay on roughly the same level barring stuff like extreme DMM cheese or Incnatrixes. Um, what? 3.0? (Archivist doesn't even exist, ...

I can't find it. Only shows one ending quote tag for me there, and there does need to be one.Starmaker wrote:Squirrelloid: there's an extra closing quote tag after "And yes pathfinder rules are a complete mess written by incompetents." Please edit the post to remove it, it's breaking the page layout.

I never allowed force users and it was still hard to run out of ideas for characters. Heck, I think I only ever used a force using NPC once across all the campaigns I ever ran. Ah, to us The Force was kind of the essence of Star Wars so we always had at least one Force user in the party. I mean, th...

But when there are a couple possible interpretations, and one of them is so pants-on-head retarded that noone would roll with it, who cares? Who gives a shit whether or not the d20 rules allow you to drown a stabbing victim up to 0hp? Noone actually thinks that's how it's supposed to work. The way ...

So, confession, in skimming i missed a key piece of dodge (sorry, been awhile). Dodge only applies to teh segment in which you dodge. You have to separately dodge in each segment you're attacked. (Generally this will be at most twice, since most mooks will fire, fire and move, or move and fire. Whic...

Blaster combat kind of sucks Combat frequently is a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing. -Dodging is pretty ubiquitous, which means its hard to actually hit because the dodge roll gets *added* to the base difficulty, and dodge code is frequently at least equal to blaster code, so the firer is...

I'm pretty sure you're wrong anyway, since CMB and CMD checks *are* strength checks. If you think giving the exact same check a different name stops it from being a strength check, that's the worst rules sophistry I can think of. A str-check is any non-attack roll which adds strength to a d20, by d...

I just want to make sure I understand you correctly: In a game of fighting monsters intent on destroying reality, the optimal line of play is to *not fight the monsters at all*, but engage in extended spooky action at a distance? And the rules provide no means of reprisal whatsoever, and also allow...

The Wild Die The big thing in 2nd edition is the wild die. Basically, one of your dice is open-ended - if you roll a 6, you get to roll another die (which is also wild), and if you roll a 1, you eliminate it and the highest die roll. This is a fucking terrible mechanic. On the one hand, 1s eliminat...

Do I have to put you on ignore, or do you start talking sense at some point? A is always in that situation, because all meaningful opposition has willpower they can spend to make their actions useless. I've tried to be civil so far, but that just isn't doing the job apparently. It's probably best i...

I'm not even convinced Ravenloft rules aren't designed to screw over normal D+D play, because it forces them to play more like characters in a horror story and less like D+D characters. PoliteNewb and company's position is less than convincing because it feels like Frank's interpretation is *actuall...

Character A *does something other than attack with dexterity*. Character B *spends a willpower point*, ignores it. Character B kills A with dexterity attack. Character A *tries to spend willpower point to negate dexterity attack*, *fails*.. If Character A is forced to be in that situation, sure! Th...

And most of that you can counter just by spending a legend point, right? I seem to recall that somewhere in Frank's ranting that legend points were a get-out-of-mind-control free. You can spend a willpower to resist the social influences I mentioned, but there are many ways to completely destroy th...

Backwards compatibility, I hardly knew ye. Yeah Backwards compatibility is a lie and always was. Mithril being nerfed probably hurts fighters and barbarians more than clerics, fwiw. Doesn't nerf fighters since they get heavy armour prof. (I'm not sure it can be reasonably argued that paizo Divine P...

On the subject of Paizo clerics... Paizo can't be bothered to read its own rules: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/spells/instantArmor.html#_instant-armor- It's a cleric spell that mostly creates armor clerics can't actually use normally, but it works in all ways like regular armor, so th...

Clerics are not proficient in heavy armor any more. So they're not really a Heavy Fighter. They're a medium fighter with a lot of really good spells. They also have 3/4 BAB, and no Holy Smite ability. They have full BAB: it's a spell. You may have heard of it, divine power. Holy Smite... I'm sure t...
