I already have NPCs/monsters generated for their next several encounters. I just can't post them yet, because some of them might actually lurk on here and see them. :D But yeah, good ideas... ;) The most recent development is that the sneaky fighter/rogue/swordsage tried to tumble up to the barghest...

Yeah, in Tome (and high level) games '20% of your resources' tends to be one out of five characters. Now that's good times! I just did enough damage with an AoO in my Tome game to drop a PC (one of the other PCs has an immediate action ability that can save them, though). That made me think ...

One of the PCs wanted to be a "time demon", so he's a Choker Conduit of the Lower Planes (took the Otherworldly feat to be an outsider), with access to a custom Time sphere I made. I am not sure what I'm going to grant as the 7th level spell/power, if we make it that far, but here is what ...

Wow, you guys are just a barrel of fun. They wanted a campaign based on time travel, and I thought this sounded like a fun premise. I don't intend for them to ever actually fight Pun Pun himself. He's just a plot device, obviously. Instead of "Save the world from X", it's "The ...

Frank's write-ups of the Plane of Fire and the Negative Energy Plane include fortresses and hideouts that would function better as demiplanes. (Why imprison something on the Plane of Fire when a demiplane would be harder to reach?) I'm not sure it would be harder to reach. Plane Shift can take you ...

Tome Game: The Fall of Pun Pun

I'm running a PbP Tome game that includes a bunch of my own house rules here . The PCs started out as ECL 7, and the premise of the game is that Pun Pun has screwed up the world and they are trying to find a way to go back in time and kill him/his grandma/whatever before it happens. I'll add stuff h...

Judging from what Leress quoted above, it sounds like the game was written by a bunch of junior high kids playing "Mad Libs". "If you perform __(ACTIVITY)__, you get a bonus to __(D20 ABILITY)__." "For activity, you wrote down 'butt-sex with Arnold Schwarzenegger', and for ...

I'd suggest to go for a simpler system Phaedrus. You want as few layers and steps in starting a mini-game, as you can possibly have. A single dice roll is ideal[.] His system has a single roll. It boils down to "d20 + Know + regional bonus vs. rarity DC - infamy bonus". Right. From the PC...

Yeah, I'd looked over your skills book. I don't agree with the base DC for identifying something going up with its CR, though, for the reasons outlined in this thread. People in general know more about really dangerous stuff than they do harmless things. In a world where you were actually in danger ...

Why not go for the obvious fix? I thought the obvious (albeit time-consuming) fix was to assign every monster a rarity, like they used to have in AD&D. That's basically what I'm suggesting here . I was inspired by this thread originally, but then couldn't find it. :headscratch: So I started ano...

Would this include all feats that grant cohorts? There are multiple ways for someone in Tome to get a cohort along with a number of other benefits. Unless you are restricted to a single cohort per capita regardless of how many different ways you qualify for one, I have difficulty understanding this...

It could certainly be done, but I don't think it is something that everyone would want to be done. People like to RP stabbing other people and taking their stuff. That's always been a big part of D&D, and was why Diablo was so popular. What I basically want to do is to remove having loot acquisi...

The craft feats are a bad idea to start with. They're either useless or overpowered inherently, depending on how they wind up being used in the campaign. So I just got rid of them entirely, and said that anyone can craft * their own items, but they're limited to crafting one "level appropriate&...

Also, if the bad guys have to wear anything your going to find then things like the effect of fireball and disentigrate on magic items becomes key to the tatics of the game and honestly that sucks. Having the treasure in the adventure get broken in order to take it is just not fun. Spells don't aff...

Frank and K actually have subtype rules like that in their Tome of Necromancy. I don't know what they had planned for constructs in the Book of Gears, as it was never finished. I did like the fluff they had about why vermin are mindless and have darkvision, though. :D

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I actually made this for a guy who wanted to play an evil-flavored Warmage/Rainbow Servant in a game I'm running. Since it is a Tome game, I figured I'd try to make it more in line (power- and flavor-wise) with the other Tome caster PrCs. Being a better cleric than a...

Naga Apostle, an evil Rainbow Servant variant

Naga Apostle The coatl aren't the only powerful extra-planar serpents that grant power to their followers. Rogues: UMD is now less awesome. Sorcerers: Reduced spell availability. Wizards: Fewer spells per day. The problem with this setup is that well-played wizards (ie: those that would need toning down) don't really need scrolls - they just prepare the right spells. OTOH, sorcerers are completely boned...
