Okay, point taken regarding "+1/2 level" but I don't agree on "+ level."

I learned that my favorite pair of gloves were buried under a pile of sweatshirts at the foot of my bed.

...Sorry; it's all I've got.

While I agree with the basic concept that Elennsar is proposing, I also agree with P_R and name that this is not the thread for this particular topic. Moving on... b) Make the Spellcasting skill kind of a skill but not quite. I vote for b. Thus, we won't go with a skill-based system, exactly. Instea...

I'd just like to say that Flying Fucking Pigs would fit right in Zeus's portfolio.

Okay, those look cool.

I assume they're made of ice, or used to make houses? Or you can get 'em at a place called "Ice House"? Some sort of ice cream fast food joint, maybe?

Wrong. I want to discrete things, and they may be irreconcileably different. I want a system where lesser wounds are shaken off in a couple of minutes, moderate wounds linger for a day or so, and there is the possibility of severe wounds that can put you down for a week (these should be extremely ra...

It's the "arbitrary" part that bothers me (and yes, I know that just about every aspect of an RPG is arbitrary). I dislike the Bottomless Well of Infinite Healing from an aesthetic standpoint. I dislike the fact that heroic final charges don't work in 3.x from a dramatic standpoint. It's n...

Healing is a resource, just like spells or potions or whatever. I find it somewhat silly that any given fight literally doesn't matter as far as healing is concerned, as long as you have the wand of CLW and no one actually dies. Healing should involve a resource-management issue, not "Well, we'...

Sounds workable to me...although I'm not sure what the overall benefit is. If you have a spell effect with the [Permanent] tag, isn't that just as good as raising yout [Intrinsic] numbers, at least until you get hit with a dispel?

I'd be inclined to stay away from synergy bonuses, with the possible exception of Profession. Skills are already easy to max out to ridiculous heights, and these expansions only make them more valuable. Synergy bonuses gild the lily, IMO. Now, if my Profession (sailor) gave me a synergy bonus on Sur...

This is an idea I've hd for a while; I'm going to throw it out so you can all tell me how bad it is*. I'm thinking of this for spontaneous casters only, to model the "more magic but fewer spells known" thing which doesn't actually work by RAW. Essentially, whenever a sorcerer casts spells,...

I agree completely on the classless and levelless part.

I don't agree that a "true Tolkien" RPG is as impossible as you say (obviously).

But thanks for your interest!

I presume you scream "Toughness! Toughness!" in any discussions of feats as well. Because if one aspect of one subsystem of a game is crap, it is your moral duty to shove it in the faces of all and sundry at every opportunity, correct?

Have fun with that,

A number is a concept. Maybe I'll go with the numerals instead.

we really don't have permission to stick our heads up our asses and pretend the really crap options don't exist. Sure we do. When was the last time a PC of yours took Profession? I ignore it when making PCs. Page 80 of the PHB is blank to me. Anyway, all in all the fact that Proffession (yo' mamma)...

Your second complaint is that magic gets to be more powerful than completely useless background skills. Solution: None needed. Well you lose, you fail and nothing more you can say on the topic, or much of game design in general, matters then I guess? After all there is NO way that sort of attitude ...

An orthogonal possibility is to build wizard casting off of sorcerer casting. That is, sorcerer casting represents raw magical ability and the wizard learns to methodically control it. I like this conceptually. It fits well with the way magic is described in many novels. Perhaps a "sorcerer&qu...

All right, let me rephrase that:

If you're just here to reiterate your view of Elennsar's view, and not contribute anything meaningful to the topic of this thread, then please leave. You have dozens of threads to dissect Elennsar in. This one's for Middle-Earth, which you have mentioned disliking.

Yeah, and then they end up chewing through a crowd of guards whose only crime was trying to protect the city. You know, role reversal. Not quite. Big Ears used his detect evil to reveal that all the guards with white headbands are, in fact, unrepentantly evil. Probably comes of having a psychotic, ...

Here's a shot at Climb. All effects subject to revision and upgrade. [hr] Climb (Str) 5 ranks: Defensive Climber . You no longer lose your Dexterity bonus to AC when climbing (note: Balance does this automatically but, AFAIK, Climb does not). 6 ranks: Swift Climb . You can now climb at 1/2 your norm...

The goblins are the heroes. They went from comic-relief "D&D from the monsters' point of view" to a band of adventurers risking death and worse to save one of their own (and incidentally, becoming quite badass in the process).

Big Ears rules.
