Monetization is converting a thought or one's labor into . . . money. I've always gotten the impression that their is an underlying implication that it involves endeavouring to make a profit from something that has little or no intrinsic worth or that profiting from would be morally questionable. N...

At least in ASL you were not running around in a huge hot metal box that stands high above the ground and has insane ground pressure. Gee, can't think of any way to deal with something like that....

It's amazing how badly set up most CCTV cameras are - you often notice when watching the 'worlds Blankiest Blank' tv shows that there is absolutely no way that the CCTV would see the face of someone who took the simple precaution of not looking up. We got a new building where they put in a "Le...

I actually doubt that what the Colemans did will even enter into the bankruptcy proceedings. All the claimants need to do is show that there isn't money there or there is a reluctance to pay. Not how the company got to that point. Discussions I've seen on how Chapter 7 works suggest that criminal a...

They can't use VR, but if they can see, which I'm assuming since that's a major issue that any rational game should make abundantly clear if it isn't true, they can use AR. If they only have astral vision that means they can't see through windows while materialized, read, etc, so it's a huge issue i...

*: Before anyone jumps on my ass for saying that Spirits and Computer Programs cannot be PCs in Shadowrun, let me assure you that I am not saying that. What I am saying is that sprites and spirits have severe difficulties being integrated into a party of physical mortals, and it is those issues, ra...

P&P refers to SRII core and Grimoire II pages. It came out in 1998, like SR3, but it's SR2. Development was Mike M. and this Randal Bills guy.... Was the SR3 craziness in the errata? It's not in my SR3 first printing, it just says "The being may increase or decrease a subjects movement rate...

Use of the Movement power does not make things impact any harder or fall apart from stress or become impossible to control. Primarily a balance issue with speeding up weaponry (and I include ramming people with drone cars as "weaponry"), but also to prevent arguments about what the fastes...

No... The upper limit of a scramjet's performance today is around mach 24 according to wikipedia. However if memory serves you have to be going at least supersonic before the scramjet will even begin to operate. That might be what Wiki says, but iirc Mach 9.6 for 12 seconds is the best anyone has a...

Yeah, I don't follow that at all. But whatever the reasoning, IMR's request for summary dismissal was denied and the creditor's request for expediting the hearing granted. So whether IMR's response "counted" or not, they didn't get anything they asked for. So it's a moot point. Apparently...

You can sub-license IP. Only if it's in the original license. -Crissa Sometime you can anyway. The twisted tale of Franz Joseph Designs, Paramount and Amarillo Design Bureau is an interesting example. The fact that Steve Cole doesn't effectively use the license to mint money that he owns is besides...

Frank had a house rule I don't remember seeing written down that allowed ritual to do some teamwork tests for various magical tasks. I forget the details, we didn't have ritual magic skill, but it seemed interesting.

Rifles (other then rimfire .22s) do a lot more damage than pistols, as they are moving a lot faster. HMG bullets are both a lot bigger and heavier and moving a lot faster than rifle bullets. Verisimilitude requires that things that are obviously true be portrayed as true unless you have a compelling...

But in Shadowrun you don't get to be more death resistant because you have a player character sheet - you get to be more death resistant because you invested in some fucking Orthoskin. Yes! My preference is to make typical pistol wounds unlikely to kill you DRT - even if shot twice, make longarms a...

For a slight change of topic, I remember suggesting to Rob when 4th edition just came out that it would make life a lot easier for GMs and players if things like the magic book and the matrix book were complete replacements for the chapters in the base book. So ALL the magic rules were in the magic ...

A question worth asking is how realistic do you want SR exchanges to be? Realism doesn't seem like a desirable goal, a "realistic" feel (verisimilitude) seems like a desirable goal. Another question worth asking is the objective of the combat system, in terms of what kind of fights do you...

I'm gong to call bullshit on that. Not because it isn't true, but because it has absolutely nothing whatever to do with real combats. We have real police statistics and now even live war footage to draw upon, and while individual deadly bullets really are fired and strike their targets in literal s...

All combat is broken in SR4. My personal belief is that the developer never fired a gun in his life and also never participated in a contact sport or a real fight after elementary school. Combat in SR4 is essentially based on comic books and batman the TV show by someone who has no idea what they do...

The decker as a dedicated character was kind of cool in 1989. Attempting to rewrite much of the entire game to empower the decker so you don't have to abandon the feel of Tron and Mr. Mechanical Typewriter's idea of computers in 2010 is absurd. Tron is as dead as disco, can't we just move on?
