You know, between like 1/4 of the threads here being "Here is why [this game|company|developer] is [bad|dumb|actually criminal]" and the backstabbing shit I personally know from the Brazilian RPG industry, I'm each day more prepared to accept that those 80s Satanic Panic preachers were on...

I think you're probably right - it's best as a source of ideas. I do recall them addressing the 'Masquerade' issue back in 1E. Basically, the Sleepers are wrong: humanity simply ignores or rationalizes magick whether it's covered up or not. Since the process involves a lot of rioting and/or witchbur...

While watching Infinity War, I found myself wondering why Vision wasn't trying to use any of the Mind Stone's powers, besides making a nice energy beam with it. Or why Thanos wasn't using the Stones he had collected, beyond the fairly basic applications of each we see. It occurs to me that it took g...

What's weird is that Dr. Strange movie final fight already showed us how Strange can fight and win against impossible villains. He can, at any moment, make a save and then replay the fight as many times as he wants until he wins. Why can't he do that against Thanos? Some points: 1) He used that tac...

Yeah, but it was an anticipatory thread. I'm interesting in seeing people's responses to the actual product, once they saw it. I don't want to taint the tone of this discussion, honestly. But I do have to say that completely reworking the basic mechanics, and then not providing mechanical updates of...

A quick search (which Omegonthesane is clearly too cool to attempt himself) shows that there is no thread specifically for UA3E, and only cursory discussion of that edition in an earlier UA thread. But then he's stupid enough to think I'm a Confederacy apologist, so that's not surprising. Is there a...

There are folks that would love Preacher: the RPG , but don't want to actually think about what the basic validity of Christian mythos means for, say, the millions of Buddhists and Hindus in the world. Surprisingly little. There is no uniform position for Buddhism, and Hinduism is really dozens or ...

Unknown Armies Third Edition? Opinions?

After their Kickstarter completed, there seems to have been relatively little attention to UA 3E. Thoughts and opinions, anyone?

This isn't a single image, but a collection of many. There's some great stuff there. The people who created that imgur collection have an Actual Play podcast here.

And yet Peter Parker was trying to be a hero all by himself - and he's probably get himself killed doing it. Is it better to give him a protective and useful suit to keep him safer while doing what you can't stop him from attempting, or keep your hands clean and let a teenager doing what he thinks i...

It occurs to me that the first Robocop movie is a profound subversion of the concept of 'cybernetic psychosis'. Really, the concept exists in games only because of the feeling that characters must pay a price for power. If cyberaugmentation is superior to normal existence, it must also have balancin...

Reviews of Dungeon Crawl Classics?

There are several threads here that mention DCC in passing, but none that analyze the rule system. Can anyone point me to a good review of DCC? (I'm trying to run a game in it now, and so far people seem to be enjoying it, but knowing some of the problems that inevitably pop up in any system would b...

The set of rules that humans can implement is quite finite, although establishing the boundaries would be quite difficult.

Every requirement you apply to rules narrows that set even further.

It's at least partly the lure of the forbidden, both in terms of age and of culture - see "Catholic Schoolgirls in Trouble". Also many people find uniforms sexy (with men it's usually military uniforms). Fetishes are often cases of intersections of several different things. There isn't a s...

I can imagine an argument being made for casting a 'school' of magic, or maybe one particular spell, as being one level lower than normal while retaining the positive effects of its original level. That would have to be reserved for the most potent magical implements, though.

Ken and Robin Talk About Stuff (the podcast from Ken Hite and Robin D. Laws) recently addressed this... and their conclusion was that 5e has been a smashing success.

Really, I'm not sure why this thread is stickied.

There IS no meat in these posts. There's just low-quality soy filler, badly pressed and flavored into what's supposed to be meat substitutes but which not only fool no one with the perceptual ability but also taste awful. Ascension is an absolutely terrible in-game goal. With greater Enlightenment, you gain greater power over reality - because you increasingly recognize that 'reality' is just a dream you're having. And all that 'power' is just influence over an arbitrary experience you're personally creating. Having ...

Except that the entire point resides in the definition of 'usefulness' being applied. If you're interested in actually dealing with reality, the crystal-waving and astrological charts aren't useful at all.
