Let's generously assume Benedict Arnold is so incompetent to only succeed on a 1 in 20 chance. What's the chance of a single Benedict Arnold of succeeding? 1 in 20. What's the chance of two Arnolds succeeding? 1 in 400. Three in a row? 1 in 8000. The point is not that Benedict Arnold transformed the...

You could always read the original vampire book (yes, more original than the original). "The Vampyre" by John William Polidori. There is, of course, also Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", if you are merely looking for atmosphere.

Saving throws by function?

This is just a hypothetical D&D-clone game idea, but what if we threw out "save versus poison/spell/whatever" and its offspring "save versus Fortitude" and instead made saves by function? Or rather, the "function" in this case is "what status it protects agains...

Elennsar, if you want to have the characters over coming great odds and still winning...that happens when the characters are low on health and they keep on going and win. You don't create that it just happens. Hell, making so characters will pretty much survives leads to that scenario actually happ...

So yes, you could have a psychosomatic magical effect, but that's under "pyschological by the vampire", as distinct from "by people who Believe" and "by the fundemental laws of the universe and/or actions of higher powers". You'd have to have some pretty screwy pyschol...

You only assume that they are different because of your human bias - you aren't kept in a half-dead state by a five hundred year old curse. For a vampire, exploding into flames because of a psychological disorder may be perfectly normal. I mean, if what passes for neurochemistry is essentially magic...

This thread will only serve its purpose (as stated in the original post) if everyone actually ignores what Elenssar posts. In spirit of that wish, I will proceed to do just that. Someone said something like "Healers should heal fatal conditions, not mere HP" and I actually think this works...

An important detail is that a lot of an army doesn't consist of actual fighters. It consists instead of the people who are there to make the actual fighters get there. Now, being in a wartime situation, it is possible they will acquire combat experience, and so a hero might make a point of giving hi...

I agree with TA. Upping numbers isn't exciting or fun. That said how much your numbers go up per level really depends on how hardcore you want 'high level' to be and how many levels it will be. Since levels should come with an ability the number of abilities you intend to give out sets the number o...

Re: Levels: How much of a difference should they make?

A simple question, really: how much should a level 1 character be able to threaten a level 5 character? I'm not talking in terms of abilities, but rather in terms of pure numbers. Let us pretend that we're in a magical world where everything stays perfectly on the RNG at all times. Should bonuses s...

Re: Hit and run

Unless the mind blast is still an area. In which case you have a power which is quite effective if you can get a bunch of mind flayers to chain it together, one of them keeping opponents dazed on each round while the others attack, and once they've all used up their mind blast, they run off.[br][br]...

Re: 4E information

I personally prefer this version of "20s always crit:"[br][br]If it would've hit normally, it crits. Yes, this means you usually crit on a 20, but it stops mooks who are only hitting you on a 21 (and thus, must roll for 20s) from critting you. It is about as fast, and still results in more...

It is generally better to design the system around the idea that 4 PCs should run into something approximating 4 monsters, and 7 PCs should run into something approximating 7, and so on, as this is much easier to alter on the fly.[br][br]From what I've seen so far, it seems like the levels are of th...

Generally, the most severe limiter in any game of M&M will be the referee. This game was not made on the assumption that the referee will allow you to do everything that is technically within the rules. In fact, it will break if you do so, because eventually some smartass will get the bright ide...

I personally don't see a problem. If you really have a dangerous feeling that you're going to be the target of crude jokes, talk to the DM about it, and if necessary, get him to agree to not pull that sort of thing. There, that simple. If he can't agree to it, why are you playing with him?

Also note that you can take a Gold Faction Sidereal who likes you enough to teach you all the arcane crap about the world as a Mentor, given sufficient (but available) points. Presumably, you have already Done Her.
